So how was PBP?

Sounds like there was some nasty weather..

there were some people that got a lot of rain, but most of us didn't. Its funny how some people reported almost no rain and others reported it rained all of their first day. The people who started on Monday got more rain than those of us that started on Sunday. I slept through the thunderstorm in Loudiac. I got some light rain on the way from there to Brest, but it was gone by the morning.

This is probably old news for many readers but here is a link to my PBP report. I had way too much fun. :p Enjoy!

Bumped for dreaming of PBP in 2013 or 2014.

2015 is the next edition as it is organized once in 4 years.

Well then, that settles it. I'm aiming for 2015. Should be enough time.

I've just read it in full - it's an excellent report! Many thanks for posting.

In October, I achieved one of my life's ambitions (a non-cycling event) -which took 3 years of preparation and training. Since then, without a big goal in mind, I've been at a loose end. I was thinking about joining (of forming) an 8-man team for the RAAM, but from what little I know most of the RAAM seems to be in organizing the logistics.

After reading your report - I just may have found my next big challenge!

But there are 1200K events run in various parts of the world every year. The Great Southern Randonnee is coming up this October here in Australia.

Glad to hear it. I plan to be there too. But there are lots of rides to do between now and then. I hope to get at least three more 1200's before that. :thumb:

You might consider the Cascade 1200 (http://home.comcast.net/~cheg01/C1200.html). It is running again in 2012.

Thanks for the suggestion - but I'm not sure I'll be ready for a 1,200 by then. I'm the new kid on the block as I've only been cycling since April 2011. I've done just 2 centuries (and RAGBRAI), so I need a lot of training. I was thinking I'd use 2012 to build up through 200s, 300s, and maybe one or two 400s, then start hitting the longer distances from 2013 onward.

I see that the cascade is on the opposite coast from where I live, so bike transport logistics are awkward and expensive - though I was half thinking about doing the STP as a one-day (double century) in July, and tying that in with a visit to my son who lives in eastern Oregon.

Incidentally - I also did a sort of travelogue of my recent "achievement". It's a bit similar to yours, pictures and captions etc., though much shorter. See https://picasaweb.google.com/110301564584342403935/Kilimanjaro#5661246095148485202

Looks like quite a trip. If you can walk to 19000 feet you should be good for 1200k on a bike. ;)

That was a very good article. The bit about plate tectonics was a little TMI, otherwise the report was excellent.
