I am upgrading to the SRAM Red and have read several comments that the stock cable set really detracts from the preformance of the group. What cable set is the best to go with for the SRAM Red group?

Wrong forum. And the stock cables are fine.

Just don't wrap them too tight. Overly-tight bar tape or Velcro attachments, over the cables, can make shifting very stiff.

I say let the guy post here. The road forum, for the most part, is a collective bunch of slobbering backwards idiots with flawed thinking.
From what I've heard, Yokozuna is the unanimous go-to brand for Sram shifting. I haven't used it (still on the stock JagWires, which shift grrreat), but a lot of pro teams use them and they have been mentioned here in the Racing Forum.

I've heard good things about them also, but there is certainly nothing wrong with the stock gore cables that come with Red. I just thought the racing forum was a little above "what cables are best" threads...

I guess you're right, but half the threads get pushed to p2 before anyone replies. People who know what they're talking about post here.

And while I haven't used the Gore cables, I have "ridden" the JagWire cables that came with my Giant on the trainer and in the stand. Once they're properly lubed, they shift very well. I still want to get my hands on some Yokozunas though.

Fair enough. I used the gore cables on my Tarmac SL last year for a few thousand miles before I switched to Nokons, mostly for appearance and *cough* weight.

nokon outers with powercordz is what I'm doing when I have some cash lying around.. a few of my teammates are running that duo on campy and sram.

I find that the stock Ride-On cables are great...

I'm using Nokon housing with bulk jagwire cables. Shifts flawlessly. Plus, by running the Nokon liner full-length, I've been able to ride all winter without gunking up my cables and slowing down my shifting.

I just buy and use whatever is laying around the shop for cheap. A little dab of grease here and there and I don't seem to have problems. I do however have those ugly antennae sticking out of the sides of my shifters. Less cable bend, more ugly.


Also, I've got no excuse for not knowing which forum I was reading. Keep these things in mind if I ever get out of line. You can knock me down a peg or two.

Thanks for the feedback guys (especially the wrong forum). It was a boneheaded move and I realized it just after hitting submit (no turning back after that).

I've been using Dura-Ace cables and housing. Not a popular choice it seems.

I should add that when I replace cables I'm not too picky about what goes inside, and I've never really noticed any difference. The housing seems to make a bigger difference IMO. That said, how well you cut the ends of the housing makes more of a difference, which is one reason I like Nokons...

I much prefer DA cables and wires to jagwire. Its just harder to get a hold of them in my 'hood.

I get mine from an ebay store, bicyclesupply (I think). About $30 for shifter and brakes.

Supposedly, Yokozuna makes the DA cables for Shimano.
