Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - is this normal?

i'm thinking about buying another bike, but i noticed that the rear wheel looked a little odd. is this okay or is there something off?

no, it looked like the axel was long or at least longer than on my current set up

yeah the axle on that hub is kind of long.
only an aesthetic issue really. plus you can space it out for a wider triangle.

does having the Triangle spaced change anything? Like ride, feel, or strength? Because whn i put on my rear wheel, the forks get pinched in about .75 of an inch on each side..

Was wondering about that "pinch". Just ignored it and carried on, always secretly worrying about a surprise rear wheel/hub/triangle explosion.

respace or get some spacers and both problems solved.

seeing as it has a freewheel on the driveside (assuming that there is no track threaded side) it could be possible that the hub/axle was primarily designed for bmx use, and therefore has a longer axle to accommodate "pegs". but over-all, not a big problem.

it's probably a machine built wheelset with the longer formula axles for 130 or 135mm spacing if needed. if it really bothers you, have the axles cut off and chased.

make sure you dont drop the bike or w/e and crush the threads on that long axle

Why would he need spacers? The threads aren't used past the track nuts. It looks like a 135mm axle on a 120mm spaced frame. Totally fine as it stands.

if that's the case, fine. i was going with what someone said about the frame pinching in 3/4" each side. if this is the case, then you should get some spacers or respace it so it won't pinch so much.

You should respace you axle to match your frame, not respace your frame to match your axle.

Then again, my bike alternates between a 120 and a 130 spacing, pending on my mood. It's probably not a good thing, but it's held up so far.

How does the spacing of the frame affect the overall width of the axle? These are two independent variables. Given the current hub configuration, the axle will stick out the same on all frame-spacing widths. The only difference will be due to differing widths of the actual track end material.
