Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Historically speaking - what (good) ss/fg bikes existed before '02?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I got into bicycling a little late - around 2002. At that time the only three bikes that I knew about that seemed decent were the kona humu, the bianchi pista, and the surly steamroller frame. Of course today there are much MUCH more choices. I am curious though what was available between say the late 80's and 2002 in terms of a good quality single speed frames or complete bikes?

I don't think these much aside from dedicated track bikes and single speed cruiser type bikes

i'm sure people will mention the cannondale track ('92ish?) and the original khs track. i'm also sure most people wish those respective companies would bring back those frames.

I have riden single speed bikes since 1995 and old road frames have always been fine. I used an Allez, DeRosa, etc road frames and those were all great. Not many frames before that with track ends that I knew of.... so for FG, 2002 seems to be the start of when mass market FG frames became avliable.

I feel that there have been very few GOOD track bikes since '02. For example the original Pista/Super Pista were amazing. The popularity of thin wall alum track bikes is truly a sad sad thing.

For decent bikes:
Paramount track
Super Pista
Pinarello pista
etc
etc
etc
