Check out the bit at 1:45 especially, where they discuss the benefits of the vertical storage method, which I know a lot of people have advocated for a long time.

Only thing is the dwell time of that train is a lot longer than a caltrain.

Looks like that train is designed for longer distance travel, rather than a 20 mile commute, such as most caltrain uses.

But 2009 America in general is faster-paced than 1955 Britain likely was, I bet we could speed it up to make it work ;)

Caltrain doesn't take you anywhere very picturesque. I guess you can take it to Morgan Hill and be mostly out in the "country".

Caltrain doesn't take you anywhere very picturesque.You can take CalTrain to a BART station, take a BART train to a bus stop, take the bus to the end of the line, and ride a bike to somewhere picturesque, though. :P

The VTA lightrail trains use the vertical storage method. The problem with VTA's implementation is that there's not a lot of space to work with and the bikes are hung about two feet of the ground so it's a bit of a hassle for shorter riders.

I was one of those shorter riders that struggled mightily in helping some woman with her vertical bike storing while riding VTA. Let me tell you, I never thought chivalry would look so un-smooth.
