just curious- who uses them? who's happy with them?

I've always had state farm, been through some crap that I really depended on them for, and always come out on top. I'd like to switch to geico and say "I just saved a ton of money!"

:roflmao2:

seriously, though.. just wondering what you all think.

I don't like their caveman commercials. Too many people recognize me.

I've never seen the caveman commercials, but their otherwise obnoxious, carpet-bombing-style advertising would prevent me from even considering them as a possible insurer.

I got a quote from Geico and their rate was 50% higher than Progressive. All they have is good commercials.

I've been with State Farm for over 15 years. They have all of my insurance. Home Owners, Auto, Flood, personal effects policy and General Liability.

I've had several quotes from Geico on my Car & Truck Insurance. They were more than 30% higher than State Farm.

I use them. When I totaled my minivan a few years ago right before Christmas which I had full coverage on, they handed me a check in 3 days. They ended up giving me more then I payed for my van, even after my deductible. So I'm pretty pleased with them.

I've been very comfortable with state farm. I'm interested to see what Geico could get me, it may not be worth it.

any geico horror stories?

One thing to remember about all insurance companies.

They are not in business to pay claims. They are in business to collect premiums.

youve never seen the commercials?>They must've come about after I gave up on TV a few years back. Last ones I saw were with the stupid lizard. All of the billboards and other static advertising I see for the company still seem to feature the lizard.

I personally haven't been able to get other insurance companies to match the rates I get with Geico. It has been a few years since I shopped. I pay about 1200 buck a year for 3 vehicles, one of them with full coverage and the other 2 with liability.

I've been very comfortable with state farm.I'm pretty sure my dad has everything through State Farm (house, car, etc), and they've been pretty good to him. Granted, anecdote and not data, but that's all I have. :P

[edit: On second thought, it might be Farmers. I'm not sure now.]

I've been with State Farm for 18 years. They have never left me high and dry when I needed them. Even when I got hit by a car on my bike, they paid all of my claims for the damage under my homeowners and subrogated against the at-fault party. They didn't have to do that for me at all, but they did.

They've never once even hinted that they were going to try to avoid paying a claim. I am sure they are a bit more expensive than some others might be, but "you get what you pay for" is a rule, not a theory.

To be honest my vehicles aren't really worth all that either. But they run great and I own them.

1. 86 Ford Bronco
2. 96 Dodge RAM B1500 van
3. 2002 Saturn car

I think a couple of things help me.

1. I drive about 15K miles a year
2. I live in a rural town and work in rural town
3. The only claim I have is when a ditch jumped out and hit me :innocent:

If someone were suing me, they would have the right to know what my protections are. It's not something you can hide.

I also drive under 15k and (no longer) have accidents on the record.

however, I enjoy being fully covered with a low deductible, under/uninsured coverage, roadside, rental... the works. other people are stupid, and sometimes so am i.

been with them since my son started driving at 16.

for a 2002 honda accord and 2001 mazda 626 my 6th month premium is only $780. it's gradually come down since the initial premium of $1150/6mo.

I would have full coverage on all my vehicles but they would need to get inspected by the insurance company first. Also you live in Denver, it would be interesting know how much that effects the cost of your coverage.

Don't accidents stay on your record for seven years or something? Did you pick up your driving permit and immediately back into a tree? :P

Our 02 VW is ~$900/yr to insure which seems like too damn much. Progressive offers much lower rates than we are currently paying. Don't seem to have a matching homeowner policy/discount, which is an inertia hump we face w/ considering geico too.

Also, do any car insurance companies offer 12 month options any more or is 6 month renewals just the way it is now?

Yeah but it's your insurance company that would lose money. And we're anonymous users. :twitchy:

I'm not sure how long they stay on your record, but geico was only looking back 5 years.

That varies from state to state.

I think in most states, they remain on your record for five years. In my experience, insurance companies only see accidents and tickets as chargeable for three years.

Any violation where DUI is involved now remains on your driving record for life.

I myself am a satisfied All State customer. They've never let me or my family down.

I had my car stolen twice years ago. I'm still "up" on state farm from it. Pay right around $100 month for a 2006 car, motorcycle and house. Oddly enough, when I moved out of the city limits to a first ring burb after buying my first house my car insurance went down more than the house insurance cost.

so nobody uses geico?

I've had geico since 1990 and no complaints. I have them for auto and home. When I shopped around back then, the only company even close premium wise was State Farm. I only pay $1100 a year for three vehicles:
2004 Land Rover Disco-full coverage-$100 deductible
2001 VW Passat-full coverage $100 deductible
1995 Infiniti G20-collision only.

They did try to make me replace a bent rim with a used one from a wrecking yard instead of a new one once but otherwise, I have been satisfied.

I think you can just go to their website and get an online quote.

Let's just say Nationwide is not on your side! Had my first accident ever last spring. Bumped the rear end of someone going 2mph at a light when I wasn't paying attention. The car happened to be turning right so I hit right on the corner of the car which was enough to dent the plastic crap bumper. Less than $1500 to fix. WAs my first accident ever and I haven't had a ticket since 2002. I'm a Grad student and my parents pay my plan until I'm done with school. Needless to say Nationwide decided they were going to raise THE ENTIRE family's rate 70% or drop me. My parents have had Nationwide for over 17 years for auto, home, etc. We dropped them. I think however part of the reason for the raise in rates is because we live in Florida and the Insurance companies are trying left and right to raise everyone's rates or drop them because of the Hurricanes. They are a bunch of crooks.

I've been using Geico since 2000 (auto insurance). I've never made a claim, so I can't speak to that. However, every time I've contacted to alter my policy, their customer service has been fantastic. Also used Geico for home insurance from 2005-2008...never made a claim there either...again, good customer service. Of course, the most important factor in an insurer is how they perform when you really need them.

A few years back, Consumer Reports rated insurance companies and found Geico's rates were high. Ther lizard commercials are really lame.

Yeah. I have to say Farmer's is not thrilling me right now w/ their response to our garage collapse.

USAA was great when one of their drivers hit me though. Just Grade A
