Right now i have the stock tires that came with the bike, kenda dahon special edition tires (40-406) 20x1.50. I'm looking to upgrade the tires to see if it'll help improve my ride a little. i've seen these tires mentioned here before,
http://www.biketiresdirect.com/psckxk/schwalbe_marathon_20_(406)/pp.htm

but was also curious if there were other to check out? also is it recommended that i get new tubes too? or since the new tires might be able to have more pressure i'll need new tubes?

Thanks

I presume you're looking for a better ride, not a faster ride. Marathons are durable but not comfortable. Try Big Apples (http://www.schwalbetires.com/big_apple). They're on the Speed P8's, not sure if they go on the D7.

I have had Tioga Comp Pool tires (1.75" slicks) on my Boardwalk S1 for several years. I like them. You just need to keep the air pressure up or they get pretty slow.

Highly recommended by several folder riders here are the Greenspeed Scorchers - also a slick.

Not sure the 2.0" big apples will fit on the D7, unless maybe it's the newer "Speed" frame vs. the older "Boardwalk" frame. Rim width, brake clearance, fender clearance and/or frame clearance are the issues.

We run Marathon Plus tires (1.35") on our Fridays with great success - increased puncture protection, but higher price, too.

yeah i'm mainly curious if i get tires that can have more pressure in them if it'll make my ride more comfortable. right now the stock tires can go to 65psi max. on the big apples since they don't have the same size as my current tires does that mean they won't work? or is it a matter of just buying and trying? or is there something i can do, like measurements or something to see if a slight different size tire would fit? this is all new to me so sorry if these are basic questions. thanks for the help.

oh and yes when i got the bike the guy had said that this was the same frame as the speed d7 but with different components.

would anyone know of good local san francisco, oakland, bay area shop that had a good stock of 20" tires to go check out?

If I remember correctly, you can't use the stock fenders on the D7 if you mount 2.0" tires on the bike - could cause some brake clearance issues, too.

If you want a good selection of 20"tires try a recumbent bike dealer.

High tire pressure usually means less comfort. A Thudbuster seat post helps "up" the comfort factor - per our experience.

Are you sure we are not splitting hairs here? Unless you have ridden tens of thousands of miles I doubt anyone can tell the difference between various brands of performance road tires....
