Northern California - Superbowl Sunday = SuperBIKE Sunday

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
We don't bother with football, right????
Who is riding during the big game? I am tied up in the morning but might head out later in the day.

I'll be out hiking near Calistoga on Sunday. Didn't even realize the super bowl was coming up until just a few days ago

Ahh, football. It's one of my vices. Especially the college side. I'll ride in the morning and watch in the afternoon.

I'm doing my recovery Sunday ride, with the original mindset of doing Montebello. But then again, we'll see how my legs feel after the Patterson Pass ride.

I got a call at work today that ended as follows:
Him: "Looking forward to the big weekend?" (Which I heard as "a" big weekend)
Me: "Very much so!" (Long, boring day, looking forward to it being over)
"Who are you rooting for?"
"Uhh... what?"
"Super Bowl?"
"Oh, didn't know that was this weekend!"
But yeah, I need to get out on the bike or something that day. I don't want to be anywhere near a TV.

X, you should go ride over to Davis and watch the Cal Aggie races on Saturday.
I'm bummed I'm going to miss the Patterson Pass ride... can't ride all day Saturday then be gone most of Sunday at the Early Birds. I'll just try to get an easy ride in sometime Saturday, hopefully early.

I'll definitely be out. I had to ask which teams are playing, and then I didn't recognize them :)
I plan on doing the Paradise Loop (and probably some add-on or another) from SF. Hopefully the Superbowl will reduce the traffic a bit!

I plan on riding Sunday - could not care less about the Superbowl. If anyone's interested, drop me a PM. Don't have a route planned and I'm on the tail-end of a cold, but if the weather's nice I'm gonna be outdoors......

The real Super Bowl will be in 3 weeks, when the Tour of Ca finishes in SD.

I plan to do a recovery ride (who knows how I'll feel after the Cal Aggie >shrugs shoulders<) and then taking a listing in the afternoon. No time to watch an over-hyped "game."

I'll be at the Early Bird, having a good time. I won't be hammering into the wind to try and create a break this time.
I'll be flying to Philly. :rolleyes:If they show the game in lieu of the in-flight movie, you'd be completely justified in shivving up the place.

I guess that makes me a rare bird in these parts: the type who likes, what are considered, fringe sports in the good 'ol USA. :thumb:

I love watching football, college or the NFL. I know, heresy, on this forum. I'm riding in the morning.

Had a mellow recovery ride today. Mellum76 met me at Peet's, and we took our time. Checked out the RC planes and just mesmerized by their acrobatic maneuvering.

It was just simply glorious out today. Everybody I came across seemed to be in a good mood and feeling good on the bike.
Was planning a ride down by Half Moon Bay on the tandem, but got tied up with church and family and by then it was too late. Almost bailed altogether, but decided to go for my usual 13-mile loop. Then I decided that I could try some repeats on the hill part and ended up doing it four times! Ended up with 31.6 miles and 3529 feet of climbing! The final descent was in pitch darkness. Luckily, my new P7 LED was AMAZING and pumped out enough light to have me comfortable descending in the high 20s! A good, no great, start to the month...

Totally agree! Lots of folks riding the hills around here during the game and everyone was friendly.
Out with the family down at the California Academy of Sciences most of the day - beautiful day, no riding tho' - I'll need some miles this week.

Which hill do you use?

Very cool. I want to check out the new Academy of Sciences soon.
I did the repeats on Tunnel/Skyline from the fire lookout at the bottom to the intersection with Grizzly. http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/7554523

Rode up Kings and down Tanitus a bit to scout out stage 2 viewing spots. I have a cold so riding up was easy on the legs, but pure pain on my cardiovascular system. I was wiped.
They did repave quite a bit of the steep section on Tanitus...it's nice and smooth.

It was excellent, beyond the well known highlights I really liked their section on the effects of global warming - very interesting, interactive and effective. One of those museums where I could happily go back on my own and spend a morning.

I watched the game, but went out early this morning for a ride in Pacifica - from my place to mori point and down to the quarry, over rockaway, and then up the old san pedro rd up montara mt. and back. The road/trail condition is not too bad right now - fine for a cyclocross bike or even a road bike with wide tires if you watch it on the downhill. What a beautiful morning it was! My cell phone pictures don't do it justice, but here they are anyway: looking down at the Pacifica side and then looking down on where the devil's slide tunnel will come out on the Montara side.

Did something a bit different - took a nice hike in Redwood Regional Park from the Pinehurst gate with the family and dog. The weather was spectacular, the hike was grand, and the late lunch afterwards in Orinda was very nice (followed by ice cream at Loards!).
Even got home in time to watch the last quarter, which was all that was necessary to watch. Then, we enjoyed the House marathon till bedtime.
Looking east towards Diablo, with the pooch rolling on something or other in the foreground:

On Sunday my girlfriend and I headed out to Sausalito and had yummy sandwiches while sitting in the edge of the sidewalk looking at the bay. This was around 2:00pm and it was a veritable ghost town which was really unusual/nice :)
Then we headed out to the Marin Headlands and hiked up to Hill 88. This is the site of an abandoned radar installation and amazingly it's open for the public to meander around and explore it. Absolutely stunning day and it must have been even a better view for the folks up in the Airship Ventures zeppelin which was continuously circling around the bay.
