Northeast - Moving to Pittsburgh and I have some questions.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hello,

I'm moving to the Pittsburgh area in three weeks and will be there until the beginning of August for work. I will be living in Jefferson Hills.

I've been doing some Googling and a few searches on here, but I have a few questions:

1. Is there a club that puts on group rides frequently? I found that there is a weekly criterium series (Tuesdays for women) which I am very interested in checking out. However, I have very little experience riding in groups, so before I check that out I think it would be prudent to get more experience riding with others.

2. I am doing an informal hill climb race at the end of September (short, steep, on a very twisty and narrow road). What are some good hills to train on in the Pittsburgh area?

3. I currently have an amazing LBS and I am looking for a similar experience up in Pittsburgh. I'm looking for a shop with good mechanics (and quick service) for the little things that might come up during the season.

Thank you for all your help.

Edit: I'm a roadie, BTW.

Here's a nice event you might be interested in trying while your here. Pedal Pittsburgh takes place annually around the 3rd weekend in May (http://www.pedalpittsburgh.org).
The website should be updated soon with this years ride details, so keep checking back. It's a great way to get to know the folks and neighborhoods around the city. We're overdue for a dry, sunny day :D as it has rained the last few years. Good routes, good folks, good rest stops, and good times.
