Hi all,
I recently picked up a Kestrel 200SCi off of ebay, and have recived this info from the seller prior to shipping the unit out. The bike had a cracked headset, and was going to get replaced.
From the seller
"Ok, the shop said that the crack is only superficial, in the ring that surrounds the headset. There are no safety issues, and it will not affect performance. However, the reason why they could not replace it with the one they ordered, is that the person who built the bike "cut the forks short" so that a standard cartridge headset won't fit."

I know you can cut carbon forks too short, but dose this sound like a OK situation? Should I/he replace the forks and-or headset? Ever heard of a standard cart not fitting even though the forks are currently mounted and working?

I wouldnt mind coming to a compromise as I picked it up for under $600 complete, but never having owned anything carbon before I thought it might be a good idea to ask those with more knowledge than I what their opinions/advice was prior to the bike being shipped.

On a side note the seller has provided me with the number of the bike shop and offered a complete refund if Im not happy with anything.
Im off to call the bike shop, thanks in advance for your input/advice

If the steerer was cut to fit the stack height of a certain headset, you may be limited in what you can replace it with.

Yup, just talked to the bike shop and they said with the right part it would be a 60$ fix, no no huge deal it seems.

Thanks for your reply
