i was almost set to buy a schwinn cutter when i came across republicbike.com, anyone know anything about their bikes? the bikes look cool and customize to my own colors...

also, anyone know how much the cutter weights? these bikes are at 24lbs. i need this for city riding with some nasty roads once in a while (maybe 2-4 times a week during the warm season). i am at 250lbs.

dont think this was reviewed yet so thanks in advance.

thanks!

Check out Schwinn Cutter (http://www.schwinnbike.com/usa/eng/Products/Road/Road-Specialty/Details/1221-S9CUT-Cutter) from schwinn site.. or Schwinn Cutter Review (http://urbanvelo.org/schwinn-cutter-review/) from UrBanVelo site, sayings cutter's weight is 26.75lbs like TANK..

your 250, the weight of the bike isnt really all that noticeable at that point while riding if its give or take a couple pounds. I'd get the republic just for the colors and lack of weird 1 1/8 threaded headset

Wouldn't a Kilo TT be better? Same price.

The Kilo has a better frame but doesn't come with brakes. Not everyone likes drops for city riding either. The republic seems ok for a occasional around town bike.

Honestly, you'd get a much better frame for the same price with the kilo. You'll be kicking yourself if/when you hit the inevitable upgrade-itis stage and you have high-ten steel as your platform.

All of these bottom of the barrel bikes are complete crap and the Kilo is only "bottom of the barrel" in the price department. You get a good bike that has been tried and tested my hundreds of folks here on these forums OR you can get a bike that comes in cool colours that is very heavy.

if he gets to the point where he decides he needs one, he can buy a new frame for $150.
there's nothing wrong with spending $350 on a bike he can have fun with and not sweat locking up in the meantime.
to be completely honest, a low end bike with fun colors strikes me as a nicer idea than a low end bike wih no options and an endorsement from a web forum full of people who don't know much about bicycles in the first place.
a bike that won't see more than 10-15 miles a week doesn't need to be anything special...

I'm not tryin' to rag on the kilo, but there was a "how much did you spend on your kilo " thread a while back.By the time time people got the wheels(V's) they liked, the cranks(RD's)they liked and the colors they liked, the build was $700 to$1000.That's a bit much for a bike that gets ridden a couple miles a week.Even if it is 6lbs lighter.

My Windsor Clockwork was about 30 bucks cheaper and came with sweet decals that make people think it's a real Mexican-built Windsor. Oh, and it's lighter and has nicer components.

Anything from bikes direct is better than those two bikes.
I would highly recommend that you avoid either of the two bikes you suggested.
