Mountain Biking - raceface is terrible, where can i get the bolts?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I got this new crank on like 7 or 8 months ago and today im wheelin the bike out to the car cause im gonna take it to the shop after work to have my pivot fixed and its makin this sound ... and im like wtf
well the chainrings completley came apart while on the bike and there is one bolt holdin the **** together instead of the 4 that are supposed to be there .... it seems unlikely that they would come apart though and i DID test ride a specialized on saturday, so we cant rule out the possiblity that they may have sabotaged my rig.
So my question to you guys is where can i get those bolts? It is something universal i can pick up at a hardware store ... will a bike shop have em ... or do i need to call raceface.

Hardware store - No,
ANY bike shop yes. They come in different lengths, but they're pretty universal, so most should have what you need.
AND, loose bolts that come apart are not the manufacturer's fault, it's a maintenance issue. Don't blame others for your own lack of attention.
The reason that more than one came apart was that when one goes, the others now have to bear more of the torque, so if they are in similar condition, they'll go too. Kinda like when you ping a spoke. Usually you'll ping one, then two more.

maintience issue or not no other crank ive ever had has done this, some engineer wasnt thinking when he built this damn thing.

Race Face is one of the best component companies out there don't bail on them because of this incident. Get the bolts you need at the bike shop and make routine checks of the cranks.

BZZZ! Wrong answer. You are the weakest link.
Engineering had nothing whatsoever to do with this failure. I'd be more likely to believe that when you (or whoever fastened the rings to the cranks) put this assembly together you disregarded the manufacturer's specs concerning loc-tite or torque specs. Which one did you ignore, pray tell?

DANG YOU!!! I just spit my coffee on my keyboard...
I agree with the rest. Its your fault. With aggressive riding bolts slowly come loose. Next time use loc-tite and torqe it right AND check them often.

Ok, then whoever assembled the thing skipped a step. It may have been someone at the bikeshop, or even at Raceface. The engineering is good, but in this particular case, the execution left something to be desired...
Edit: I run Raceface cranks, and have around 4000 miles on them, never had a problem. I think I will check them tonight.
ok well fine then ... someone lock this thread now that i know my question that i can get the bolts at the bike shop has been answered.

The only time I ever clean my keyboard is when this happens to me. :p

I need a new keyboard but that's due to other reasons like the new Santa Cruz bikes for 2005.
BTW, I'll lock this thread now!
