"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - Injury in T.N. race

Last August I was in a race in Chattanooga Tennessee and the was apparently a rider that was hit at high speed by a motorcycle. We were descending of a small mountain on this very twisty road and I was unfortunately near the pack of the large peloton. I saw this guy on a Harley approaching us in the other lane and he flew past us. The saw someone that must have been dropped on the climb and was chasing hard to get back in, and crossed over the yellow line on the last sharp turn. Just a second after the motorcycle past me I heard a rather loud KAPOW. I didn't even try to look back but there were riders coming up from behind me a little latter looking like this :eek: saying that someone had been hit by that motorcycle. On the way back to the finish a little while latter there were still some police cars a perhaps a fire rescue still at the location. I live 2 hours away from there and I never have heard another word spoken about it but I was just wondering if anyone here had some info. I am sure that it had to be serious because the racer was going about 45 and the motorcyle looked to be going about 55mph.

Any reason your bringing this up 5 months after the crash? Just curious, I know nothing of it.

If that is the race I am thinking the guy was from here, Birmingham, AL. He is back riding and getting ready to race this season. He had moved up through the ranks fairly quick last season...

It was in a Pro/1/2/3 race. That had to have sucked.

yeah it was in the Pro/1/2/3 race. I was in the 4 race (if you like to call being dropped at the first hill in the race). My buddy Sam was in the 3 race and he said that the guy got hit and it sounded like a trainwreck. He was way in front of the accident but I think Aubrey stopped to help the guy. Not sure how it turned out.

I heard that race for the 3s was brutal though. My buddy Shannon said they were strong out along the flats and he was in his 53-11 spinning out trying to keep on the wheel in front of him.

Yeah it was the guy from here. Both he and his brother started last year as 5's and were both 3's before the summer was over.

Some of the best guys in the nation got shelled in that race. A Rock Racing guy and Michael Olheiser dominated the day from what I was told.

I pray they separate the 3's this year :)
