One of the greatest movies ever made. It will win the Oscar for best picture, hands down. The story is very, very clever. It's sad, sweet, thoughtful, intense, and finally at the end uplifting and joyous. Also, I love when a great movie is made with no big name stars from Hollywood. It was simply remarkable.

I DID see it over the weekend. Awesome movie!!!
I loved that the story was so fresh and original. Definitely a strong Oscar contender.

Someone described it as a rags-to-riches story but it wasn't. In the end, the money meant absolutely nothing.

I have heard mixed reviews. Been too busy- will see it sometime, just to find out what all the hullabaloo is about. :)

I don't understand the mixed reviews. RottenTomatoes.com gave it an aggregate 94% rating. That's as good as some of the greatest movies of all time.

Definitely not a "rags to riches" story. As you said, the money meant nothing to him.
how were they blinding those children? what were they pouring into their eyes?I "think" it was just a hot spoon (heated in fire). I don't think they were pouring any liquid in there.
Now let's not talk about story specifics and give anything away for those who haven't seen it.

You could probably explain the plot in detail to someone and they would still enjoy this movie. There were no surprises and some of it was even predictable. But that didn't matter. The characters, storytelling, direction and editing made it powerful. You know what I mean?

It's been a long time since I've seen a movie that good.
I haven't seen all the contenders for best picture, but Slumdog definitely belongs in the running. Bollywood has really come a long way.
Technically, not a Bollywood film.
