It's probably because we mostly lived in apartments and my mother wouldn't let me have a dog. But I liked cats. Kids like all animals. They don't realize how useless cats are until they get older.

So is a pet rock. Dogs are like bikes. They're the best, but they're not for people who don't want to go through any trouble or expense.

My little white pup (who has doubled in size in the three weeks I've had her) ago bosses the neighbor's Great Dane around (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bo3B0CgkMdg). But they're great buddies, and she's gentle with small creatures. During her last vet yesterday, she wound up smooching one of the resident cats.

Dogs are like Brooks saddles. They're the best, but they're not for people who don't want to go through any trouble or expense.
