I just picked up a Bontragger crankset and realized it may need a specific BB. I've found a typical Shimano Ultegra BB but realize they may not be interchangeable. If not can anyone point me to a compatible BB? My Fuji frame is English 68

Thanks

edit - would the Trutativ x-pipe BB work?

The Bontrager cranks are made by Truvativ, so yes theire BB would work. The Shimano would not be compatable.

Most of the Bontrager cranksets are ISIS, so an xPipe should work. which xPipe is going to be determined by your chainline. Should be a chart with your crankset for the measurements. It's not the same as the Ultegra Hollowtech BB, you're best sticking with a Truvative BB. Marcusbandito is right, almost all the Bontrager cranks are Truvatives. since it's 68/road it doesn't get ugly, I just put a Bontrager King Earl on my 29'er and that particular crank required a Truvative Howitzer BB.

This is one where the axle is integrated with the drive side crank and the bearings are exterior. I'm hoping that means the bb or cups only come in one size

Let's make this easier :) What crank are you working with and which Fuji frame? Since there are a lot of variations of crank designs these days it'll make it a bit easier..!

The "X" in Giga X Pipe indicates the newer, external bottom bracket system. Older giga pipe (w/out the "x") was ISIS.

OP: Just make sure the external bottom bracket you get is Truvativ for 68mm English threading. For example: http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product/BB408D00-Truvativ+Giga+X+Pipe+Bb+Cupset+06.aspx

truvativ cranks (bontrager) only work with truvativ GXP BBs. there's a difference in the NDS bearing. smaller ID with an inboard step.

Thanks I picked one up from BikeStop at the same price as jensonusa. It's the second external bearing setup I own but the first I'm assembling.

After installing the cups, if the integrated spindle does not slide through the the second (non-drive side) cup straight and easy, it's probably a good indication that the cups are not parallel to each other and your bottom bracket shell needs to be faced at the bike shop.

You could use the Shimano, but you would need to add the shim from a GigaXPipe BB. Bike shop might have a few spares.

You could also use a Hope external BB, which comes in a variety of colors (which the SRAM/Truvativ BBs don't), and with steel (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=27626) or ceramic (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=27627) bearings. You just need to use it with these converter rings (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=26899) to use a GXP crankset.
