Cyclocross - New Tricross build

A few weeks ago I crashed on my Cannondale road bike and dented the frame in some critical locations, so I checked out what was available at Specialized on their blem list(I'm a mechanic at a Spec Concept store btw). I found a Tricross frame/fork on there that was my size and was very affordable

I saw that they had a Matte Black/ Raw frame in a size 56 so I ordered it. It turned out to be a mock up paint scheme for the Tricross Pro that didn't get approved(they used red instead).

I think it looks great, and the finish is VERY durable.

I took it for a ride on the singletracks behind my apts in Laguna Hills and the bike is FAST, it climbed much faster than I've sprinted the same climbs on a Spec. Epic.

Bike weighs in at 18.8 lbs.

Dura Ace 7800 components, Dura Ace Tubeless wheels(with fresh rear rim thanks to the crash ), Thomson Road stem, masterpiece seatpost, Easton EC70 bar, Specialize Houfalize 700x32, Tektro CR720 cantis.

I plan on using this bike for commuting, grocery getting, CX racing, bikepacking, and for long distance rides across the Santa Anas and into the Inland Empire.

How do you like the Tektro brakes? I was thinking about buying a set.

on the CR720s...I bought a set to replace my Shorty4s and absolutly love them! They stop on a dime and don't make any noise! I love the adjustibilty of the pads.

I think I may have them set up wrong, they're definitely not as strong as the Dura Ace Caliper brakes I'm used to. I'm going to mess around with them some more, but if I can't get them any better I'm going to use mini V's.

Maybe my cable carrier needs to be higher? Anyone know?

If you look at most of those mafac type brakes they run a really high cable carrier. I would estimate that most of them are over 3" from the tire.

Decent bike. I bought a 2008 model. A little heavy and this can be helped by changing out some of the components. I'd look to change out the wheels, but if not, at least change the cassette. That thing is a boat anchor. Other than that, it's a decent bike.

I'm going to get the Specialized Tricross racks, but I'll probably only put them on when I do some light touring on it.

I may leave the front rack on all the time.

I always wear a backpack though, except on long road rides.

I don't believe your fork has the eyelets for the TriCross front rack.

My '08 TriCross Comp has screws about 2/3 of the way down the fork on each side for the front rack. The '09 TriCross Expert I just built for my brother doesn't have them, but it still has the mount points for a rear rack.

The Tricross front rack mounts on top of the canti or mini v brake pivots. The fork leg mounts are only used if your going with a low rider rack.
