Bicycle Mechanics - I just bought this tire!

So I had a flat and needed a tire so I bought one from the LBS for like45 USD. Now I notice a nick in it where I can see a fiber or thread whatever you wanna call it. It is right down the center line and I don't see any foreign object in there. What should I do? Leave it alone or put some kind epoxy in the nick. It's really small like maybe 2-4 mm.

I have never spent $45 on a tire. Catch a sale at Nashbar and you can find a lot of decent tires for a lot less than that.

A typical flat won't require a new tire, just a new tube. Were your old tires in such bad shape that you needed new ones? If not, then I'd recommend avoiding that shop.

FWIW, debris like glass and sharp pebbles can cut through the rubber on a bike tire. It's not an issue as long as it does not puncture the casing underneath as that is when you get a flat. If you find debris inside of a cut, dig it out so that it does not eventually work it's way through and cause a flat. If nothing is there, just let it go.

I thought it was an ok price. It was 39.95 + 3. That is high but, it's a shop and he changed it for me. Also, yes the busted tire had already been patched once and that is right where it sprung a leak. Probably shouldn't return it as I have put 30-40 miles on.

Brand new or after you rode on it? If it's brand new I agree with the folks who say to take it back. If you've already ridden on it, I'd say that's a normal road hazard.

FWIW, I never pay attention to small cuts in my tires and I'm still alive to write this. YMMV.
