I'm getting a replacement rim for a 50mm Gigantex tubular that was destroyed last summer. Shipping from my source is not cheap, so I'm thinking that I should get another rim, and build up another race wheel on the cheap.

But, the dilemma lies in what to get, exactly. The list below details the wheels I currently own.

Front:
Mavic Ksyrium Elite
Specialized/HED tri-spoke tubular
Gigantex 50mm carbon tubular
Wolber Profil 18 tubular with Vittoria Pave 24mm

Rear:
Mavic Ksyrium Elite
PowerTap laced to Bontrager Classics clincher rim
Specialized/HED tri-spoke tubular set up for track or SS time trial use
Wolber Profil 18 tubular with Vittoria Pave 24mm

So, the question is this:

The company I'm buying from sells 19mm, 38mm and 50mm rims, in carbon tubular flavor. Aside from a disc, I have wheels for most every application. I plan on getting one 50mm rim to replace my previous wheel, plus one more rim; what rim depth should I get, and what should I use it for?

You should get two more Gigantex 50 mm clinchers, full carbon, and send them to me instead.

It looks like the hole in your lineup is a 50mm rear. Do you have a hub for it? Spoke count lines up with available rims?

I'm getting a 50mm for the rear; but I feel it's wasteful to pay $50 in shipping, when it would cost me very little extra to get ANOTHER rim as well.

I have the hub and spokes for it; the wheel was actually run over by a car and the carbon along the brake track was crushed. Spokes and hub are still in great shape.

Basically, I'm getting a 50mm rear, plus another rim. But, what should I use that rim for? 38mm in conjunction with my front Wolber as a set of climbing wheels? 19mm for the front?

I'd say pick up an additional 50 - maybe dedicate it to cyclocross in the fall.

....but if not another 50 my first instinct was to say their 38. Using that for a climbing wheel would be nice.

Thanks, you too. How'd little Meatball enjoy his first "race"? I didn't see his finishing time or any of that, but the dude is JACKED.

Made me feel like a ****** when he was warming up.

He did well...I started a thread (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=507466)on it, but he laid down power numbers that were almost identical to mine and he's only been on the bike like 5-6 times in the last year or so....and never seriously before these last 5 or 6 times.

He's determined to lose some weight (muscle really). He's going to rip some legs off in the lower ranks this year for sure.
