Today it was +50 degrees and the roadies were on the MUP with tights, booties, full jackets and balaklavas. It was funny.

As opposed to denim testicle huggers, a boutique cotton hoodie with a fixie logo, and flashy sneakers?

Some roadies seem prone to going waaaaay overkill on that stuff but they might have started their rides when it was still in the 30s.

Wait, were the denim tescticle hugger kids outriding me? Or was it the spandex testicle hugger kids?

the "roadies" were riding farther than the levis 511s.

Heh.
I ride baggy cut-off dickies.
Or Spandex.
Depends on the circumstances.
Jeans feel comfortable walking around, but they feel crappy on the bike.
Anyone ever have trouble digging a phone outta the denim testicle huggers whilst riding their hipster chariot?
%^cking things suck.

Yeah, those dudes have no idea what's going on.
Next time race 'em and show 'em what's up. Let us know how it goes.

I dropped a roadie going down hill and uphill while eating a bag of chips, all I heard was gears clicking trying to catch up.

You might be right there, guy. I, in my jersey, shorts and sidi's, only went for a quick 40 mile ride today. I waited until it was warm enough to go out in shorts and a jersey, because I didn't want to carry a bunch of extra clothing.

Great, but the "roadie" who rides daily in his balaclava and windbreaker is going to be in better condition than you who rides a "quick" 40 miles.

I'm waiting for the day when all you fixsters are middle-aged brahs rocking all carbon fixie whips with your forty-year old guts hanging over 300 dollar denim testicle huggers struggling up a hill on 40 by 19 gearing on riser bars whilst some 14 year old on retro spandex is kicking your ass and laughing at you on his vintage 10 speed nishiki with genuine steel rims.
Oh what a beautiful day that will be!

Speak for yourself. I guess there isn't much more to do in New Mexico than make fun of people on road bikes?

Maybe the were up on the crest! I'll bet it was cold up there...

But, at 50, they should have started to peel som of that stuff off...

By the time they get down in the valley, they will be nice and comfy in spandex and jerseys...

I think its funny how some people reply saying that you're judgmental, but you just got a thread of people saying, "As opposed to denim testicle huggers, a boutique cotton hoodie with a fixie logo, and flashy sneakers?".
There is only one way to ride a bicycle and your way is always wrong!
With all critical responses aside.

I rode my bike to work the other day with 78 degree weather. By the time my shift was over it had dropped to the 50's. All I had was a T-shirt and my nut huggin 511 shorts. There was only two things I wish I had! Gloves and a beanie. With the sun out anything else seems excessive.

Speak for myself? After you incorrectly call me out for my choice of riding wear, distance I may have riding, then my level of fitness you tell me to speak for myself? I guess there isn't much more to do in PA than make fun of people on the internet?

I got the impression the OP wasn't making fun of them for being roadies or having geared bikes so much as he was for them being overdressed. I personally don't think that I would want to ride with that much clothing on in +50 degree weather. After going through the winter in WI, 50 feels like it is summer!

Yes. This thread is another example of the fixed gear community feeling intimidated by the negative "hipster" image that is quickly becoming associated with fixed gear bikes. I don't like it much either, but there is no reason to consistently be on the aggressive attack in order to defend your anti-"hipster" ideals while knowing nothing about the OP.

Continuing to wear a balaclava in the 50+ weather is insane. Maybe they were training for a heat ride in desert next month!

This thread is too serious. The OP found it funny, some don't (and weren't there to really determine if it was in fact a funny sight.) We all care why now? Cool.

Parts of the NW are Definitely harsh. I'm west of the Cascades where it's fairly temperate, however. I've lived in hotter and colder climes, and don't even own a balaclava anymore, since there are only a handful of days that warrant the use of one.

I still visit family in PHX a couple times a year and know that if I go for a ride with Mom, she's gonna be sporting a light jacket if it's below 70 degrees. She's not a roadie, though. She rolls an MB-3 with Avocet Cross tires on it.

It's gotta be a drag being a roadie or a fixter. It must be their neon color proclivities (clothes for the roadies, bikes for the fixters), that draw attacks like we see here.... hehehehe.

I can see both sides of the view...oh and throw in the mtb's and the crossers who can't make up their mind what kind of bike they are riding. More people on bikes SUCKS...

Maybe if I read this on the roadie thread, I'd just assume it was some snobbo roadster getting his nose up his butt, but seeing it on a fixie forum just makes it that much tastier.

OWNED!!! true story though. you can't be a cycling barista with an empty "messenger" bag forever....maybe another resurgence of vespas?

its like when you dressed punk in high school and you had to take off the chains so you could finally be taken seriously at the jamba juice interview. bahaha.

Ha! I'm a 51-year-old. I hope you get old enough to see things from my perspective. It's funny how young 'uns automatically assume they'll reach certain stages of their lives on cue: no surprises, ever! Callow, hubristic, youth.

For those of us who live and ride in warmer climates 50's can be barely comfy, and when riding "roadie" one does carry some speed which equals wind chill. these clothes are made with that in mind...

the point about summits and valleys is valid, as is the fact that in fla it can go from the 60's or 70's down to the 20's in one night...

weds is to be only 40's with freezing tonight...

am I a wuss for riding my commute in long johns, two pants four ls shirts and three or four more top layers, neck gator and beanie over my skull cap?

oh btw, i work outside too, and i'll be in elements for 9 hours, just for work
