Road Cycling - Newbie Biker

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Ive been riding normal comfort/hybrid bikes for a while, and im sort of bored. I've always wanted to get into road bikes. The most I will probally spend is $300, and im willing to buy a used bike.
But does anyone have any advice for me, like what kind of road bike I should get since im just starting out?

welcome cobra,
first of all there are alot of good bikes out there. your hybrid should give you an idea of what size you need, but it wouldnt be a bad idea to verify the size at your lbs (if you plan on buying there) or via the net, maybe someone in the forum can give you an idea where to look.
You have to look at what type riding you will be doing, will you be racing, touring, group rides, commuting, organized rides etc?
For $300 I am sure you can find a used buke at your lbs or online such as ebay or bicycle classifieds and numerous other places online.
Each one of us in the forums have our favorites in bikes, so you will be getting loads of different makes and models and I am sure that 90% of them will be good bikes.
If you have a chance to test ride a few different bikes and see what is more comfortable to you and your style, that would be a start in determiniing what flavour to buy.
most of your entry level bikes will have a mix grouppo or shimano sora groupo or something of that nature, the better the bike the better the components, be sure to take notice of these things and who had the bike, age, apx milage and what it was used for before you determine what you want.
sorry i wasnt much help but some of the guys in the forum are tired of hearing me say "buy a Bianchi"
Good luck to you and ride safe
Well at first i'll probally be soloing on trails to get the feel for the bike. Im pretty young so i doubt ill be in any group rides.

I see you are from Tampa area, There is a bike shop in St Pete called NE Cycles, look him up, I know he has several decent used bikes..
Then if you are serious head up US 19 to chainwheel drive, they have group rides starting from there all the time, you will get some pointers and lots of good adviise.
You are never too young, so dont let your age het you down...
Heck if you dont mind riding with a 40 year old guy and his 11 year old son you can ride with me...
keep us posted, and be patient you will get several replies to your thread here...
