Winter Cycling - Here comes winter again!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Our forecast high temp for Tuesday is around 85F with 50MPH wind! Wednesday it is forecasted to be around 40F! We are expecting over 2 inches of snow! I'm sure it won't stick to the road. Probably just make a soggy ride on Wednesday. Spring time in Montana. Ya just gotta love it! :)
Oh great.
Hey guys, get out the over boots, and studded tyres/tires.

Short Term Forecast
Today: Periods of rain and snow showers before noon, then a slight chance of rain showers. Chance for precipitation is 80%. High near 48. Northwest wind between 13 and 16 mph. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 32. West northwest wind 6 to 10 mph becoming south southwest.
I guess it is never really safe to pack the fleece into the closet.

Yea, they are saying this is a very aggresive Arctic front that is going to move through. Expecting thundersnow behind it this evening. The wind was already over 20MPH this morning.
I'm just trying to to give you, mtessmer, k6-iii, and the rest of ya'll in "the Cities" my customary "HEADS UP" before it gets to ya! :d

You've got that right! I know I keep mine close at hand all year. Of course, nights around here even in the summer drop into the 40F range, so a jacket is in order.

Same sort of crud here, too - just a day later.
Mid- to high-70s today and tomorrow (with winds around 20mph), then rain/snow on Thursday, high of 39.
Yea, you guys in Denver have had a couple of blasts of winter lately. I feel for ya, Stu!

Looking at the view out my window here, I can tell you that we need as much moisture as we can get! It's certainly making me feel that a set of fenders could be a worthwhile addition to the commuter, though. :)
Oh, and what happens when a bunch of crazy Aussie ex-pats plan a footy tournament (AFL) for the day after mother nature dumps 6 inches of snow? They play anyway... :) Denver Bulldogs vs. Arizona Hawks in Denver, 4/24/2004.
For a minute I thought that was a group streaking.
We're in the 80s today, then drop back to 50s for daytime highs and 30s for night time highs. Add to this a wind that you can't predict, low humidities, and you have a "match book" ready to fire. We are under "hazardous weather outlook." Meaning we are dry enough that a spark, a cig butt, or lightening strike could set off brush fires across central MN.
My healed broken leg has been doing this throb that usually means rain in three days, but the forcast say nothing. Someone is wrong, them or my leg, and my leg isn't ususally wrong.
Well, I took off for my eye doctor appointment this morning at 7:30AM. The temperature was 30F. Snow ball snow driven by a 40MPH wind right into my face. The snow felt more like ICE razers hitting my face. I had my funny "Gorton Fishermans" rain gear on. I looked like a big yellow banana on a bike. :) By the time I hit the city limits, I was coated in ice. Even had a nice ice cycle haging from my mirror. My "Subzero" goves were drenched. It took about 15 minutes once a my eye doctor's office to peal the rain gear off and dry it enough to avoid making a mess. The ride home was much better once I got back outside the city limits. The wind to my back. Riding in the same direction as the HORIZONTAL SNOW was much easier. Next time I do such a thing I will wear my belaclava!
NOAA is forcasting snow Sunday, with a high of 52. I suppose it is a fitting way to start May.

Hey, sorry to hear that Tucker. At least the snow won't really stick around for long. I spent the ride in this morning dodging ice patches. It was cold, but sunny.

I picked up 3" of the white stuff last night, temps back in the 70's by the weekend.

Simular here Joe. I spent he commute in this morning dodging ice slicks. Looks most is melted off now.

I swear, I'm never moving North of here. I can still feel the sting of winter even though it left here a couple months ago.

 Well, it ain't all that bad!
I am originally from central Texas. Moved up here when I was a kid. There are interesting things to do summer or winter. I actually look forward to the changes in seasons. If you watch our weather during the winter, this part of Montana is normally around freezing or above in the winter. We do get cold snaps, but they don't "normally" last long. Our friends in Minnesota have a much colder winter to deal with.
Forecast calls for snow the rest of the week. Yeehaaaa

This post will show the latest radar image from NWS GTF. The radar is already in SNOW mode.
