Evening everyone. This probably isn't the best place to ask, but I wasn't sure where else to go.
My wife and I will be visiting the D.C. area to take in the usual sites, but we're having trouble deciding where to stay that is also reasonably priced. Most of what we're looking at is above the National Mall, but I found a Hyatt in Arlington that is just above Arlington National Cemetery, and is one block from the Metro. I'm curious if this is an okay area to walk a block at night, as I'm sure we'll be staying down near the mall a few times.
On the same note, are there any areas of D.C. we should avoid late? It'll be early summer, so it will be staying light out fairly late.
Any help is much appreciated.

You will be fine in Arlington. It is very safe and most places near the metro are pretty well lit. You might also look at some Bed and Breakfasts in the city. I can personally recommend Maison Orleans (http://www.bbonline.com/dc/maisonorleans/). It is about 2 blocks from where I live on Capitol Hill, which is a nice safe neighborhood where you can walk to the mall. Enjoy your trip!

Cool, thanks for the help.
And I sent an e-mail to check rates on the B&B.

DC is a pretty expensive area for hotels.
If you don't need fancy, check this one http://www.innsofva.com/
Close to DC and if you have a bike it's an easy ride.
Hotels out towards Falls Church and generally less expensive.

Ive stayed at Rouge hotel on 16th and Rhode Island (just north of downtown) for $140/night for two queen size beds- its a boutique hotel, so if you like the color red, its good for you. I've also been to Swann House, which is a cute B&B on New Hampshire & Swann (3 blocks east of Dupont Circle) with brandy tastings and cheese tastings every night. i think i paid $150/night.
