Fever is nearly 103 degrees. I'm burning up right now, but in a bit, I know I'll be freezing my butt off. Ugh... I hate being sick. :p

If you do not want to read the whole thing here is the pertinent excerpt

A tepid bath (water is neither too cool or too warm to the touch) may reduce the fever, as well as comfort the person. Alcohol rubdowns are no longer recommended.

yes, and it turns out the fever may actually be higher than what the thermometer reads. My mom just told me it seems to register a little low.

My normal body temp is around 97 degrees, so I may be pushing a 7 degree fever. No blackouts or hallucinations yet, so I'm doing ok right now.

on a side note, one of the reasons i have epilepsy now, was from having a fever for too long. granted mine was a lot higher than yours, they are nothing to joke about.

a cold wash cloth or bath my be a good idea. or a wet blanket.

Just registered 105.5. I may do a tepid bath a little later, but I'm gonna try the washcloth right now.

Have thyroid problems like I do?

And yes, I would take a fever reducer if I were in that circumstance. Maybe some vicoden too. :thumb:

105 is dangerously high for an adult UA. Consider getting help please.

yes, but your health is more important - can someone drive you to medical help. ER, etc?

SpongeDad

I would go to the hospital if you're that hot. Better, have someone drive you.

You may start hurling at which point getting fluids will be impossible without an IV.

Really, don't f' around.

UnsafeAlpine

If I start to hurl, I'll go. Right now, I have a cool washcloth on my noggin' and I'm feeling rather comfortable. Another fever reducer in about 15 minutes or so and I'll be golden. :o

Thanks for the concern guys. I've had to deal with worse, so I'm not totally scared yet.

Get yourself to the hospital those temperatures are nothing to mess around with.

CbadRider

Get some cool cloths on you or sit in the tepid bath. That will drop your body temperature faster.

Just conferred with the wife who is an ER Nurse. I told her you had a 105 fever. Her call......GO TO THE EMRGENCY ROOM NOW!!!

UA if something happens to you I am going to be very cross! Who will be my nemesis? GO NOW!!

x136
02-02-09, 10:07 PM
UA, I know you don't want to go, but 105 is serious. As far as I remember, anything over 103 or 104 is of serious concern. If you doubt the veracity of the claims presented in this thread, call the nearest hospital and ask them. I think they'll agree.

i broke 115 and am applying for disabilty now. and missing two years of my life
most hospital thermometers don't go above 110 because they assume you are dead at that point.

take that how you want

My company makes hospital thermometers. Ours don't go above 108.

UA, we know where you live, we can always call 911 and send them to your house.

Still get to the hospital. Fevers tend to fluctuate, when it goes up again, it can go even higher.

Then again, a doctor saying "wow" probably isn't very encouraging, either.

Still alive. Still running a slight fever, about 102. Feeling about 148% better than last night, though.

:D

102 is not exactly a slight fever, and your temperature is always lower in the morning.

Don't do anything more strenuous than lifting a finger, drink plenty of tea and other fluids, and even if you feel hot, keep warm.

And that ER trip remains an option, remember.

I guess after last night, 102 feels kinda normal. :p I'm taking some fever reducer and I plan on just doing some homework today, nothing more.
