Cyclocross - Cantilever transverse cable - Help?

I have avid short 6's, which I recently adjusted to work a hell of a lot better. They now stop on a dime on my cross bike, but I still have the problem of the front transverse cable being too short ( I have to set the spring screw on one side all the way out). Back seems to be fine (both screws slightly out). Would I be better off ordering a slightly longer transverse style cable from avid (where can I even get this?) or something like this:

Any good bike shop will have a couple in stock or will be able to get a couple with in a week. A quick fix is using an old MTB brake cable and a cable yoke , moon unit, straddle carrier, what ever you want to call it, this set up will cost you about 50 cents total. But a specific transverse cable is a good idea in the long run, it is heavier so it doesn't stretch, clamps a little more firmly. When your trying to figure out exactly how high to mount the yokes, a good place to start is to look at other peoples bikes that are faster then you, http://www.cyclingnews.com/tech/2008/probikes/?id=tim_johnson_cannondale_xtj , and experiment from there.

So I should get the yokes then? I might just get it for the front only first, seeing as it would be cheaper and the rear is already basically perfect....now I just have to figure out if this whole mechanical advantage setup and whatnot is good.....I have to have my pads pretty damn close to the braking surface for it to stop nicely, is this normal with avid shorty 6's?
