Ride Saturday-Sports Basement (Marina) 9am
To Mt Tam via Fairfax/Alpine dam
Ramon has some extra yardage to add to the mix, so about 80 miles.

Probably requires lights ... at least if I go ... :p
It's the standard Tam route that starts with some mileage in the city and then the Marin Headlands before hand.

Hills in the city include Arguello, Clayton, Twin Peaks Blvd, Dalewood Way. The route goes up the hill by the Cliff house but to get in some more steep hills it would be better to make a right at Balboa, left at 47th, right at Sutro Heights, left at 46th, then up to Clement where the route continues. 34th ave up to the Legion of Honor, a quick horseshoe up Pershing Dr, and ending with the climb up Lincoln Blvd. After Dalewood there is a lot of downhill and plenty of time to recover before climbing again by Ocean Beach.

Wow, that's quite a route. :thumb:
Marco and Ruth did this ride late last year on their tandem. We only skipped Dalewood Way. Pete and Chris O are in so far.
There are hills. Some are steep. It is life.

Ramon, is 47th that steep one we did when Ruth & I rode tandem?
47th is steep but 46th from Sutro Heights to Anza is the steeper.

Whats the projected ft of climbing for the day ? Are those busy city streets ?
What sort of Grades ? Anything approaching 33% like my homeland

You have a little fishy nibbling at your hook :-)
Looks like a great route - sadly I can't make Sat I'm afraid - relatives in town
Never ridden in the city. Never ridden across the Golden Gate. Haven't climbed Mt Tam for many years.
I think I'm in.
Is there any parking near the start?

I have an early-morning appointment, down that way, so how could I not throw my hat into-the-ring for this one? I just hope there's some kind folk to keep me company.
It's gonna hurt, but you know how the saying goes... :)

It's been getting dark, these days, around 5:30 - 6:00 so at least we've got that going for us. :thumb:

Glenn you can either park in sports basement or my driveway downtown, that way you could take the bike messenger route with me cross town:D

60,000,000 feet average with 35% grade!:thumb:
There are plenty of spaces at the Sport's Basement parking lot which is why I like starting from there. According to Bikely it's 7800' of elevation but I take that with a grain of salt. Also, we never actually ride the last three miles to the true summit once we get to the parking lot following the seven sisters.
Some of the streets like Portola and Sloat will be busier than others. Nothing like downtown on a Friday at 3pm though. As far as grades, the most difficult will be Dalewood as it's listed at 25% for a quarter mile. Since the route loops around whoever wishes to skip it can wait for the others to come around the block. 46th ave is steep as well though it's not too long. Think of it as a mini Calaveras wall.
Weather looks like it will be in the mid to upper 50's for the day. SF can always feel colder with any fog and wind blowing. Hopefully the roads will be dry as well.
Taxi, Spingineer, GW_12, Mellum76, Chrisoco. Am I missing anyone?
Will have to skip this one. Too much drive in SF lately, 5 out of the last 6 weekend days.
Pete,
Thanks for the offer. I'm going to meet you guys at the Sports Basement parking lot tomorrow. Maybe I'll take you up on the bike messenger route next time :-)

I think it's a game time decision for me ... on whether or not I want to make the trek, or just do something local ... I'll let you know in the morning.

I'll show up ... I'll be in the back. Probably won't do the whole route either.
Ok, we'll still follow the SF, headlands then down to Sausalito and the rest of the ride and then Pete and Ron can turn back at some point.
