Tandem Cycling - Rear Rack Sizing (tandem specific??)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I recently ordered a rear rack for my Burley out of a catalog. When i went to put it on the bike it is to narrow and doesnt line up properly. Is there a "hardware" kit that allows you to bolt it on differently, or am i supposed to be looking for a wider width when i ordered the rack? thanks

Most all racks are designed for standard road bike rear ends that are 130-mm. Your Burley is most likely 145-mm. You will have to stretch the rack to fit the bosses down near the rear axle. Mounting the top of the rack near the seat post may require metal straps or other adjustable hardware.

Bend the rack legs out a bit to fit the rear tandem spacing.

We use a Burley Moose rack. Very good rack, just spread the legs out a tad.

Drill a hole in a 2x4 and insert thr rack tab. Now you can make minor adjustments by bending it to lay flat at the mounting point.

Very pretty, now you just need some red brake hood covers from Hudz (http://www.grabthehudz.com/gallery.html).

I see r900's avatar has another "red" Big Ten logo, which shall go unspoken. Sparty On!
My burley is blue, but my blood (and cycling socks and jersey!) are Green and White!

We got our tandem rack from Old Man Mountain. I told them it was for a Santana, and it arrived pre-adjusted.
