I took my sons middle school ski club to the hill as I do every Wednesday night. It was the best coditions of the year. It was just puking snow every run was on almost fresh powder. Well 5 or 6 runs in I meet up with another guy who was similar in ability to myself which is pretty aggressive. We spent a few runs just chasing each other down the hill. On my last run of the night (not planned) I was following him through some bumps when he went down in front of me. I went right to miss him but his ski released and caught my left ski which brought me down pretty hard. Sliding down the hill the tail of my ski kept digging in and finally I felt it let go. I thought it was my binding but no, the ski was still attached. What I felt I think was my calf muscle tearing. There was a team physician there in the lodge who checked me out and said that he felt the tendons and ligaments were ok and because of the placement of the pain it was a good old calf muscle tear. He said to figure on 3 to 4 weeks of recovery time :( Guess Ill make a trip to my local doc tomorrow and see what he thinks. Sorry for the long post....I am just kinda bummed :(

Way to go. I've always said that tomfoolery on ski's is never a good thing.

I hope you get better real quick-like. I hope this doesn't put your big gold S on hold.

Is it swollen and bruised? If not you may just have a strain. I tore a calf muscle and it bruised really bad and swelled as well. I couldn't walk at all on it and had to be on crutches so if you're getting around decent, that 's a good sign. I found even with a tear though that is wasn't long till I was back running with a lift in my heel. I don't think this will keep you out of cycling long. Fingers crossed for you!!!!!

Hope its just a short setback Gary. Maybe you'll be getting back just as the weather gets better. From my experiance, don't push it too fast, you don't need to be dealing with scar tissue in the muscle later on.

Swollen and just starting to bruise up now. My kids are laughing at me while they watch me "walk". They say I look like grandma.......LoL. I have to take a real short stride to keep my left foot from trying to bend up. The worst is when I go from sitting to standing. Feels like the calf is going explode.....Is that how yours felt?

BTW....Soft snow in a sandwich bag makes for an awesome ice pack...

Sorry to hear the news. Heal well.

These things happen ... on the skis and off. It's called living life to the fullest. Have no regrets for doing that. :thumb:

I'm sorry to say, yes, that's how it feels. I fear you've racked it up pretty good. It helps to wear high heels. However, unless you're going for the "KISS" look, I doubt you can pull it off!!!!!

If it's bruising, well, phooey..not good. Let us know.

Looking back...YES! After I gave the guy his ski back, he just skied off and left me laying there.....:crash:

Well there may be more fun ways to get an injury, but skiing ranks right up there as far as the fun meter runs. Dude was kind of a D**k for leavin' ya' laying there though. Did he even ask if you were alright? I would have stayed and marked you down with some crossed skis and a flashing LED. To each their own I guess :notamused:

Heal soon man,

Denny

Nope, He never asked but in his defense I didn't say I was hurt either. I got down ok on my own making lots of short right handers and some long slow left handers. Thank gawd for some really stiff boots. I am like you though Den. I would have stuck around to make sure the other guy was ok.

Gary,
Was at Spin today getting my new ride and was hoping you might hav been in the shop to meet you- Greg spent considerable time setting up my new Specialized Sequoia for me. Awesome. Now I know you had other things going on- SUCKS being hurt-

I was AT BM Tuesday nite- me and a bunch of guys from NRPD were skiing. We missed the "puking of Powder" we got the other night but it was good skiing none the less.

Heal up for those SPIN Rides coming up. Good thoughts coming your way-

Dave

The only good thing about skiing injuries is that at least you don't have to take as much grief from your friends, family, and boss as the guy who breaks his arm skateboarding in the pool at 40 years of age. Everybody still asks me how the skateboarding is going, ha! (in my defense, it took me 34 years of riding the damn things to finally break something - not bad i figure).

Hope you heal quickly!
