probably would strip it down to the frame and prepare it for touring if it works out, depends on if the sizes are right.

I don't know this bike & have nothing to do with the sale, I just wanted to post it here for the folks that actually need a bike, that is, before it gets bought by someone just to flip it.

: / thanks for the insult, now think, i'm on a tight budget, in college, and have enough sense to know that the components on the bike won't be what i need for a 4000 mile tour, i'm not going around buying up all the tandems that are inexpensive so that nobody can have one, i simply can't afford a 3 or 4 thousand dollar bike, but i could upgrade one like that and have a darn good one for 700 or so. but thank you, thank you for telling me i'm a bad person. maybe i should go jump off a cliff before asking next time. hell, i steal candy from kids too.

I have this bike (i think - i have a softride samba that is the same color). I purchased mine used (for 500) as a backup to a "road oriented" burley rumba. Anyway - it did have a rack on it. I will check tonight and shoot a pic of how it mounts/find the brand info. If you want to PM any specific questions that might not be list worthy - feel free. Mine had a few upgrades prior to my purchase - so you would have to confirm the setup your bike has. I know that my rumba (essentially the same frame without the softride) was a great fully loaded touring bike for us.

I think you just took it wrong. His comment was not aimed at anyone particular. Just the normal CL flippers.

the rack is a made by trek. Its attached with two aluminum arms - which I assume are after-market. it's quite sturdy. The arms have a piece of duct tape on them to create a "fender". The picture makes it appears to be one solid piece. I pulled back the tape a bit to illustrate.

I would think that you wouldnt need to do much of anything to tour with this. The rear cassette seems a bit tighter then the rumba, but the granny gear takes care of any bottom end torque you might need. We toured with panniers front and back, lightly loaded, and also pulled a bob.

i also thought that it wouldn't be bad as a cargo bike! seems you may be able to take the back seat off when not in use and put a cargo holder back there, plenty of room, and would make a great double-use bike, or at least give it a purpose when someone isn't riding with you : )

I missed out an a $250 1998 Santana a couple weeks ago in Indianapolis, The thing was sold 10 minutes after it hit Craigslist.

The c/f beam alone is worth 300 bucks.
Burley did sell rack adaptors.
