I was browsing eBay and came acrossed the folowing item:

It got the wheels turning and I got to thinking it might be a good conversion for an older road bike frame I have, sort of like a Sturmey Archer three speed with 4 extra gears and no chain or derailleur to clean and lube.

The frame is a '76 Raleigh Super Course that is just that, a frame and fork and in bad need of a repaint so it's not a canidate for restoration or anything, and I have just about everything else here to build it up this way.

I figured I'd post the idea here to get some other opinions?

Sounds like a good idea, but you'll be in for a couple of hundred dollars minimum by the time you get wheels (you'll probably have to get one built for the Nexus hub), tires, etc. and a paint job. If you really like the frame, go for it! If you're not sure about the frame, maybe look for a newer frame or a bike already built.

You'll still have to clean and lube the chain, just won't have the derailleurs to mess around with.
