I have a vintage Univega sportour, 9 speed.. i think. but that doesnt matter because I want to convert it to a fixie, but I was wondering if this model would wokr just fine into a fixie conversion...?

First off you have to post a picture of it.
Second off you'll probably get a better reply if you say you want to do the conversion while leaving the frame intact just in case you or some future owner of it wants to put it back into a geared format.
Third if it is in fact a 9-speed cluster on the back then it really isn't that old.
Fourth, well, waiting on the pics first ;)
But to answer your question, almost any bike can be converted into a fixed gear bike. Some take more parts and effort than others, but almost any bike can be converted.
Hard to believe that model started as a nine speed, more likely was a six speed at one point in its life. As far as converting it, this is really the wrong forum, suggest you go to the fixie/single speed forum. Lots of expertise there.
Another kitten is on death watch.....

Seems a shame to loose the gears. Our kitten is alive and doing fine.
