Hey all,

I'm new to this forum and I appreciate any advice, tips, and info you all can give me.

My goal is to learn how to rebuild/maintain my road bike.

The bike: It is my father's orginal road bike, Schwin Super Sport, late 70's?.

Its use: Recreational rides, some charity rides, soon to be short commuter transportation.

My knowledge level of bikes: Very little, I can change a flat and put the chain back on if it falls off but other than that I have not been taught, nor taking the time to learn the proper way to repair/maintain my bike.

My question for you all: Can you point me in the direction of some good resources for learning how to rebuild and maintain a road bike? I will be reading this forum frequently now to learn from other people's questions as well, but most seem to be already over my head. Where is a good place to start?

thanks in advance...

chris, New Hampshire.

Library, bookstore, bike shop for tools and parts at least and depending on the shop- advice... here for specific questions - just make sure you search before posting hey ;).

Since there doesn't sound like anything specific, if I were you, I'd strip it down and put it back together - that would probably give you a good crash course.

Well my front derailer compressionless wire busted yesterday. I was how ever able to tune the rear derailer to shift gears properly with help from the website. Only have two days before the 50 mile charity ride. Not sure if I'll time to fix it. I think I only need my top five gears anyway, no bad hills on the seacoast. This could get interesting.
