The Sept 12-19, 2009 Cycle Oregon route was announced last evening and it's a loop out of Medford, OR with a theme of a tour through the "Mythical State of Jefferson." It looks like some fantastic riding with new roads in addition to some encore great overnights and new communities including Yreka and Happy Camp, CA. This is probably the best supported unloaded touring ride in the US.
While Cycle Oregon briefly rode through a slice of California in 1996, this is the first time it has overnighted in the state. In 2004 Cycle Oregon overnighted in Cambridge, ID, so there is precedence. The Oregon Bicycle Ride also centered in the "State of Jefferson" area in 2007, and used Yreka and Happy Camp as overnights, which I'm sure paved the way for its larger cousin with 5-6 times the number of participants and support crew.
The website <www.cycleoregon.com> has been experiencing server problems since it was updated last night so you might want to give it some time to come back up. The overnights towns are: day 0 Medford, nite 1 Yreka, nite 2 Happy Camp, nite 3 Lake Selmac (near Cave Junction/Selma), nite 4 Glendale, nites 5 & 6 Grants Pass, day 7 Medford finish.
Check in out and join the fun if you can!
