And it's now up and running. Here's my personal page for Tour de Cure, Indianapolis, for 2009!

http://main.diabetes.org/site/TR/TourdeCure/TDC265568030?px=3127592&pg=personal&fr_id=5597&et=9PYvpePfCibKu2K29IkdgA..&s_tafId=219246

There's the usual link if you want to join up with Team Stormcrowe for the ride. We'll welcome you happily! Last years members are of course, welcome as well. I'll be setting up a deal for out of town members at a motel near the track again this year as well, but not the Brickyard Crossing, unfortunately, since it's not going to be there. I'm going to set up something that's within riding distance from the track, though.

Great news Tom :)

I've just sent an email request to the Tour folks to switch me from an individual over to Team Stormcrowe. I told them you would vouch for me if they had any questions. :D

I wonder who it was. :innocent:

Nah, it was me. But only 25 bucks. :crash: I know in times like these not everyone can afford to chip in, but everyone who can afford to should consider making a donation. This is a very good cause, and one that I am sure is near and dear to a lot of people. Diabetes is becoming more and more rampant in modern times.

I hope I can make it down for the event, but it's hard to say what my availability will be at that point.

It should go directly to the Indy event. You have to put which event it concerns (via dropdown) beforehand on the email page. So I'll keep my fingers crossed it went the right way. :D

What happened to the Crossing? I can't remember, but is there a Hampton anywhere near the track? If anyone else has a USAC license, we get 10% off. On another note, I am proud to say Team Stormcrowe has two official members now, & the requirement for the team is to join us one week afterwards of the St. Louis TDC at the track!

Here's what happened. :(

Seems to me they basically want to lease the property to one of the chains, and have them build the new one. Of course I'm kind of reading between the lines on that, but it makes sense. I can see suites going in place of regular rooms, which would be nice. Of course that does us absolutely no good this year.

I'm getting bids now from Hotels and Motels. I'll get us a deal, no worries. :D

I was also looking forward to seeing everyone again. The team made me feel very at ease for my first time riding with that many people. I will definately planning on the event in the future.

My racing while completely enjoyable is coming to an end due to lack of participation in my area. That is why I must miss the event this year. I will be in Ohio at a Grand National race. I've been racing for over 32 years. I don't know how much longer I'll be competitive against the 18 year old thundercats so I'm really trying for a Grand National event win. Hopefully I get it since I'm making the choice to miss Indy.

I also would opted to do the St. Louis event the week before but have another event that takes priority. My lady's son is going into the Marines that weekend so I will be in California.

So I take this year off and come back stronger in the future :D . I have joined a health club so combined with the way I trained last year, my goal is to complete the 100 mile event on my next attempt.

How about some tips and advice for the first timers? Can we wear camelbaks? Do we run the entire track? some guys where I work were saying "good luck getting up those banked, 15 degree turns", I didn't think Indy had the high banks like Daytona or Rockingham. What should we do to prepare the night before,-eat,drink(obviously get plenty of sleep) I don't want to take any #2 breaks during the AM like most guys I know do.

It ain't hard, and the track is smooth, and the banks are gentle. :D You won't need a camelback, really, since you're never going to be further that 1.75 miles from water, gatorade, or Hammer Heed or snacksat any time on the track.

Night before, plenty of sleep, a good carby dinner, and relax. Start out hydrated and stay that way. :D

Indy's banking is 9 degrees, and that's only in the corners. You'll be coming into them off the 0 degree straights, so you can actually gain momentum if you work them right coming off the turns. Personally I found the bottom of the track the place to be last year. Plus it's the shortest way around any track :D

I'm with Tom on leaving the camelback for another day. You'll never run short of water on this road. Smoothest dang road I ever did ride on I tell ya'! It's really a great time, and I've been chomping at the bit to get back there.

I see the start time for the ride is 7:30. How long are they going to give us to finish the 100 miles?

I quit an hour early last year because I had 35 miles to go and I'm not that fast:( I forget how long we had last year.

I cant afford to purchase a nice road bike, so I've been selling plasma to buy parts for a 25 yr old Schwinn World. It has been powder coated a vivid icy blue. I just ordered 44cm drop bars, and a stem to mount to a threaded to threadless adapter that I'm also building in the machine shop I work in. It's ironic how my blood is literally going into the instrument that will hopefully make a difference in someone's life when Diabetes is eventually cured. Both my parents died recently, not from the Disease, but mom had it, and some of dads family had it, plus my best friend at the time's mom passed away when we were in high school, from it. I don't ever want the Disease to affect me any more than it already has. Seeing my mom and grandma having to give themselves injections when I was young was pretty traumatic, I was in the hospital several times from birth to fix my cleft lip and palate, (which still needs finished) so being in the presence of "sharps" was a nightmare.
When I sit in the chair at the plasma clinic, I dont get nervous about the pain, I ignore it, instead, I think about the hurt my mom must've felt, and that makes me want to do more. I cant wait to be at that track this yr, and next yr, and so on......... gonna be a blast!

Excellent! I have a Sun Tour Rear derraileur somewhere if you need it. It's an older 5 or six speed range, long cage. GT if I remember correctly (The design Shimano more or less cloned.) Let me know if you need it. I can probably come up with a saddle as well.

Rodjs
02-20-09, 09:23 PM
Thank you Tom, But I have all of the parts there, just upgrading a few, I'm going with the threadless setup cause I believe its stronger than the old school goose neck, going with 44cm bars will put more stress on the old setup. New wheels are next!

I am contemplating riding from South Bend to Indianapolis the Thursday before the event. IF, and thats a big IF I can convince my wife to travel that evening BY HERSELF by car, the same route to meet me there about the same time. (she has a Garmin as will I)and, does anyone know if it's legal to travel along US31 or does someone have a better, alternative route, I'm all ears! its just a thought right now, cause certainly money plays a big part of this. and hopefuly by then we'll still be employed. :)
