General Cycling Discussion - DC riding for recreational cyclists

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My mom is going to DC this weekend and is looking for places to ride and things to see. Anyone know of good paths and places to visit while riding?

I can think of Four.
1) From alexandra to MT. Vernon (Which has just opened for the season)
2) The park near National Airport I believe it connects to 1 above
3) The B&O canal
4) The trail out to Leesburg. Check Rails to trails for details

PM Cyclocichia she's real helpful and lives up that way.

Her and her husband are going to Gettysberg first, then taking bikes to DC. They're staying 1 mile from Arlington. Neither of them are really big into riding, but they do like to ride. I might just tell them to get a city map and ride from their hotel to downtown, and to suck it up and embrace not driving in that city(I've been there before, and I know the traffic is TERRIBLE, especially around the monuments)

I would suggest either the W&OD Trail or the Mount Vernon Trail. Both are paved and well kept up. The Mount Vernon one will be quite a bit more busy with people walking and roller blading if you go on a weekend.
