Great Lakes - chicago women on fixies???

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

listen. none of my friends ride bikes anymore.
i'm the lone lady on a fixed in the winter snow and summer sun and when it comes to having cycling questions, wanting to go for a bike ride, maybe doing some routine maintenance, i've got no one to talk to...
as a sort of squatty/busty/volumptuous german-midwesterner busting it around on a fixed most the time, it'd be cool to have someone to hang out with who maybe can understand that battle with crack and muffin top (although i think we all have some crack wars goins-on).
tell me chicago has some sort of group for the lady biker?!
you want chifg.com (chifg DOT com)... i think you have to wait a day for approval before you can post.
"busty"......?I,m down with that:)

a fixed gear on these roads? I popped both 700 x 23 cm tires on a pot hole with my road bike in december. My solution for cracks and muffin top is simple: bigger tires. I have been riding a mountain bike since november, and aside from the rusty chain, my mountain bike is a winter warrior.

as far as going for a bike ride goes, I'm down.

absolutely not! bigger tires? never dream of it.
although did do some crazy winter conversion to a mountain bike last year and that think was exactly as you described "a winter warrior". too bad the chain destroyed chain wheels...a mystery to myself and every bike shop i took it to. i think i was taking an overhaul class at Turin at the time too boot. no idea...sad really...it was a beast.
my fixed has taken a beating two winters now, and the wheels prevail even...pothole after pothole.
hopefully i didn't jinx myself.

I ride with boots and my toes still freeze. do you still ride when it is -5 degrees outside? sorry about your winter warrior going down. how wide are your tires? I figure once I get a decent pump, and switch to platform petals, I should be able to ride my road bike all winter too.

-5? yes. there is a windchill cut off...i think -11? i don't remember. it's been so warm recently! although winter needs to go home.
my tires? uhm they are 700x28c! and i find a fixed, although slower in the winter, sometimes able to hand a few more things...like when i'm going over multiple ice humps, it *feels* like i have more control over the tires, whether or not it's true i wouldn't know.
