well it is now 3:30 and I am finally finished with my most OCD moment in a while and I am hoping their are others out there with this much free time to make me feel a little less crazy.

First, worked all day wrenching on bikes to pay the bills. Go home, look at bike disgusted about what the winter slop has done to my bike along with needing the rear shock rebuilt anyways sooo....

Drive back to the shop, food in hand, and start taking everything off, throwing the drivetrain in the parts washer and working towards the shock. After taking off the shock I notice the pivot bearings are getting nasty and I really dont want to buy new ones and im this far in so i pull the seals off every pivot bearing clean and repack those, since its easy now clean the hell out of the frame, then work back towards the shock and rebuild that as well. So now the the shock is all happy I start putting the frame back together and when bolting the shock in realize their is play in the eyelet bushing...so i press in a new bushing and finish putting the frame back together.

Start working on cleaning the drivetrain and realize I have nothing better to do on this friday night so i pull apart the rear derailer as well, including pulling the cage and the b-tension spring as well as the pivot at the mounting bolt, clean and regrease that. Repack the cartridge bearing in the der. pulley basically just because I can.

Other randomness is re-grease the seatpost, pedal threads, pedal bushings, run new cables/housing, true/check dish on my fairly new wheels to make sure they still are good, luckily only a couple small turns of the spoke wrench, clean and re-grease the bb, pull apart the crankset and actually grease where chain rings meet spider and probably some more still but i forget everything else.

Only things I did not really go through are the headset bearings, brake calipers (juicy's that are still working good) and hubs (kings that are only 4 months old)

Feel free to share your crazy, make me feel less dirty

wow. I'm trying to gather the energy to just debug a sticking brake cable/lever/caliper problem.

my bike needs a bath. it starts there, and I can't even do that. You win.

Slacker.

Seriously, I thought I was bad when I've started with a wheel true and gone on to hub overhauls...

No, man, I think you win. ;)

I thought I was bad when I pulled a RD off my road bike *just* to see if it would fit an old frame - and ended up tearing the RD down, taking the jockey wheel bushings apart and cleaning everything. Probably the worst was when I spent like 20 minutes deciding exactly what level of grease resulted in best movement of the jockey wheel bushings. Fun times. But I don't think I've taken out the B-screw to grease it. ;)

I can, however, confess to spending waaaay too long finding the optimum headset tension. I also continue to spend time trying to get the tension just right on my rear QR so my disc brakes don't even rub a little. These things bother me.

Oh, and don't get me started on my cyclocomputer, it's for the best. If it's off more than 0.1%, I'm not happy.

My bike gets a thorough going over during the winter wihich will include plenty of new parts. I just spread it out over two months, instead of doing it all at once. If you like nice stuff that all works properly, it's just what you have to do. Obsessive? Anal retentive? Yeah, but so what. When I'm riding, and everything is working perfectly, I'm happy. I can tell you are too. bk

Put me down for $20 worth of whatever fueled you for this little escapade :D

Did I miss where you waxed the frame??

a man after my own heart. i'm the same way, after coming home from the shop i go to town on my own bikes. and yes, waxing the bikes does happen after i'm done (a clean bike is a happy bike...and a stoned joe is a productive joe).
