Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Auburn, AL Clydes

Just wondering if there are any other AU clydes on this board. I saw a guy this morning with a bright yellow jacket on a Trek 1000 I think. I was curious, I am always looking for someone new to ride with.

Yes, I'm in Auburn. I'm finishing up my Engineering degree in August and I have just started riding a road bike in the last 5 months. I have a couple of people I ride with and we are always looking for more people to join our group. So far I've lost about 40 lbs and most of it can be attributed to my work in the saddle. I thought about putting another thread in the Road forum but I am not sure I could keep up with most of them anyway.

You wouldn't happen to be in Huntsville would you? I might be moving up there after I graduate and I have been wondering how friendly it is to cyclists.

What kind of rides do you guys do? Hills? Long miles? And where?

I'm in Opeilka. I'm quite comfortable with doing my solo rides for now. Mostly because I'm concerned about skill level and dragging other down. And to this point my longest ride is jut over 16 miles. I ride a Fisher MTB. I usually only ride on weekends.

I'm in Decatur, but there's a club in Huntsville I plan on contacting soon to get in on some of their regular rides. It's www.springcity.org (http://www.springcity.org) .Check them out. Looks like a pretty decent club from their site. Like Delusional Dude, I'm still working on building leg strength, commuting and riding solo for now. Hope to ride with you some day if you make it up here! I work swing 12's so I'm off weird times throughout the month compared to 9-5'ers.

We usually ride between 20 and 35 miles depending on how much time we have to work with. We average between 16 and 18 mph so far but we are getting a little faster. Sometimes we ride with my buddies girlfriend and we go a bit slower but we are always willing to slow up a little for new people. We are by no means in top physical condition. If you want to go for a ride shoot me a PM with your phone # and we can get together.

Thanks for the offer, but I am nowhere near ready to ride with you guys on a regular basis. My goal for now is to work up to riding the Saturday Breakfast social ride that leaves from the high school. So far my longest ride is about 16 miles. By summer, I'll work up to riding a lot more miles per trip. I'll keep an eye out for you on the board, and if I get a mega dose of confidence I'll try to get a ride with you.

Sounds good to me. Take your time and give me a shout if you decide you want to go for a ride. Like I said, I'll take it slow.

I am in the Huntsville area, and a member of the Spring City Cycling Club. I don't make it to a ton of group rides because of my schedule, but they are a great group. Seenoweevil, you might be interested in the RAM (Ride a Metric) Training Series that is starting back up soon. It is designed to get you from almost nothing to a Metric Century in about 5 months. They ride most every Saturday morning and start with a ride of about 7 miles around a 10-12 mph average. They increase the distance a little each week all the way to the All You Can Eat Century in Huntsville in September. I did it last year, and it was a great intro to group riding. A lot of the rides start from the Greenbrier area, so they are just as close to Decatur as they are to Huntsville. The information is on the website at www.springcity.org. If you are interested, let me know. I plan on hitting a few of the RAM rides just to help out in return for getting to do them last year.

I'm in Pennsylvania, but they say everything between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh is Alabama. In that case this is the thread for me. :)

I am in the Birmingham area. I actually live out in the Trussville area around Margaret.
