Bicycle Mechanics - My front brake bracket is a little loose.. Is that normal?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I just purchased my bike and I noticed my front brake bracket is a little loose (goes from side to side a little easily.) Is this normal?

As long as the hex nut behind the fork crown securing the front brake is tight, this is normal.
Brakes pivot a bit and can be moved side to side by hand, but should recenter next
time the brake lever is pulled. If they don't there are adjustments that allow
automatic recentering. Review Barnett's manual (link at top of the mechanic
list) or go to the Park tools website and on the left will be a link to their manual
on tool use, which discusses all sorts of bike mechanicing. Steve
