Bicycle Mechanics - If you were going to order parts/components from one website, which would it be?

I am building my Long Haul Trucker and I want to save on shipping by ordering as much as I can from the same place. What site would you recommend in terms of decent prices, availability and reasonable shipping?

Universal shipped me a returned item as new. It was a Mavic wheel that came to me out of true & with damage that looked like someone tried to mount or unmount a tire with a screwdriver. I don't trust them anymore & won't use them.

Many sites offer entire kits. Universal does not but they have a great selection and have been good to me. They will probably offer you a discount if you will buy all your components from them at one time. They did for a project I did last year. I did read a post above with a complaint and that was certainly an unfortunate mistake but we all make them. The more important thing to know is how did they handle it when they were contacted. That separates the men from the boys.

Your LBS can order everything you need and possibly cut you a good deal on assembly. But if you have decided to bypass them and go online then try this.
Make a complete and I mean down to the last nut, bolt and washer complete parts list. Then go online and do a search for bicycle components. You will find there are a handfull of shops that carry big inventories and have fair pricing. Since it is unlikely that one shop will have everything you are looking for prepare to split your order between two or more. And keep in mind most of them have a price point where shipping is free. Usually around hundred dollars.

So what you need is a site that has everything that does price matching. Since nobody has everything I usually use Jensen.

I order from every place -- every one of the retailers has their strengths & weaknesses. But if I had to choose only one it would either be Universal or Alfred E. Bikes. AEBikes has QBP's catalog, which comes about as close to everything you would need as any single place could. I think they price match, but their own prices are pretty good.

If you haven't used it already, check out spadout.com for price searching on MTB components.

For mid to upper line components, say Ultegra/Centaur or above Licktons in Chicago has good prices.

If you lived anywhere in Europe then I'd highly recommend ChainReactionCycles (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/), which are based in the UK. Given that the UK pound is doing terribly at the moment, it might even be worthwhile for North Americans to order parts from them if they are making a decent-size order.
