I wouldn't pay more than $300 for it, but it depends on how desperately you need a frameset. Also that is without knowing the tubeset.

Ding really hurts value. Sounds kind of high to me.

It's a bit on the high side due to the "ding" and the paint chips. That being said, it's a Colnago most likey made out of Columbus SL and usually go for a lot just because it's a Colnago. Also, keep in mind that all the Colnagos I've sold (7) have gone for more than $475. None were in NOS condition yet were in pretty good shape and without dents or dings (except for a Master Extar light with a bunch of bigs dents that somehow sold for a bit over $300.) You see how a Colnago brings in a lot.:twitchy:

Well, if you want to buy it, might as well go for it.

I certainly like my Colnago.

I much prefer buying a complete bike. Unless you have some very good parts laying around, the built can get a little costly.

I think I may go for it, I don't think that I have to make a decision today given that it is rather expensive, but I think that I like it. I will need to try it with a set of wheels under it to make sure that it does fit and isn't too big for me. But I think she looks like a very nice bike, worth further investigation. thanks to all of you for your tidbits of wisdom.

Colnagos are sort of like Porsches in that the owners tend to fall into one of two categories:
Drivers
Collectors

Collectors would faint over that ding on the chainstay, Drivers would just say it is a part of racing.
Collectors pay more for nice examples, Drivers pay more for documented provenance (but not always).

Find out the rear spacing so you know what wheelset to bring with you for the sizing.
Of if you can verify the model name of it you can probably find an online geometry table so the seller doesn't see you show up with wheels and start to figure he/she can hold out for a higher price.

My 80's-90's MasterLight is square or a little oversquare, top tube is longer than the seat tube (56ctc st and 57or56ctc tt if I recall correctly).
