Lance seen testing at the ADT Velodrome in LA (http://beta.velonews.com/article/87459/hour-record-armstrong-tests-bikes-at-la-s-adt-velodrome)
I think its great, maybe it'll get track cycling more respect in the US.

was the reporter mad he couldn't get a quote and decided to run the story anyway?

I was actually going to go by ADT and watch him today, the track was on the way back from my race and was open to the public. I decided to get a coffee and take a nap instead lol.

Just a thought.. He is doing a come back and he needs to get as strong as possible in the short time. Nothing better than do some track for a few weeks. It would be nice to see him doing the record anyways.

He was just there for the day afaik- he's in the area for TOC. He's been there a few times before to test stuff, usually pretty quietly and we only hear about it after.
And yeah, having a velodrome like that nearby is really nice.

Oops, I meant Lance.

So when Lance actually attempts the hour, remember you heard it here first. (http://twitter.com/bdcheung/status/1167356973) A whole week before VeloNews picked it up.

Not for nothing, but his hour was scrapped when he was really strong because the numbers didn't add up. It would make sense that it's for other kinds of testing, but I'd be pretty skeptical about a serious go at the record until it actually happened.
I'll bet $10US, he doesn't even try.
Why would he? The hour record has as less respect than a training crit.

The Hour hasn't been given much respect because nobody noteworthy has attempted it in recent history.
Someone like Lance attempting the hour would bring a lot of media attention.

I thought the Hour record was one of the most coveted palmares.

Would he be going for the record where equipment is limited or not? They are 2 different records.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hour_record
The thing is about the record without limits (TT helmet + discs OK) is that the positions that hold the record have been since outlawed (?????).
2.6 MPH increase at the same wattage on the TT position/bike. Wow.

Since Lance has foregone an Hour attempt in the past, here in the US it is considered irrelevant. As soon as he announces any interest the band wagoners will be on here, giving us all a lesson in the history and importance of the event.
edit: I present this thread as evidence of the above statement.

19 second laps isn't anything to write home about, for him. Curtis Gunn whupped that.

I don't think he was actually attempting the hour when those shots were taken.

well, isn't it important to talk about which record he could break? One of them is right around 50 KM/H and the other is 56 KM/h. How could he break 35 MPH without going into some nuts illegal position. That is the only way those records were set.
Call me when Lance does 50 km in wool shorts and a leather helmet on a steel bike.

Given the nature of the two bikes (LA's Trek vs. Eddy's steel bike) I'd say Merckx is the one with the advantage here.
His bike is definitely more aerodynamic than the fat-tubed AL bike shown. Oh, and that ain't wool.

What I find the most impressive is that multiple records were broken on that one ride.

It was also lighter than the UCI minimum.... Merckx's hour record bike was 5.5 kg (http://www.wolfgang-menn.de/merckx.htm). Not that its an advantage in such an event.

What history lesson did I give?
I simply thought it'd be cool if Lance were actually going to attempt the hour record.

I'd be a lot more excited about lance doing the hour than another tour.
I wonder if they are considering the hour because he may not be as physiologically suited to climbing (and attacking) at this point.
