Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm torn between these two. The only thing I don't like about the FSR is the Axel fork. Anybody have any suggestions? BTW, I've ridden them both.
Fuel 90-$1,650
Rock Shox Duke XC
Fox Float R rear shock
LX/XT drivetrain
Hayes hydraulic discs w/ Avid levers
Bontrager ACX tubeless tires
FSR XC Pro Disc-$1,399
Manitou Axel
Fox Float R rear shock
Deore (front der)/LX/XT drivetrain
Shimano M525 hydraulic discs w/ Shimano levers
Panaracer Fire XCs (I have them sitting here)

Have the shop upgrade the fork for you before it even leaves the shop. They'll most likely give you some credit back on the Axel since it's new (even though the steerer is cut) and you can get a better fork installed and it'll still be cheaper than the Trek.
BTW, big fan of Specialized bikes, and I don't really like Trek's.

Depending on what your price cutoff is, you should look at the 04 Stumpy FSR comp. It's $90 more than the trek, but comes with a triad shock and a fox fork, along with LX/XTR. It doesn't have disc brakes, but the hubs are disc ready, so save up for a few months and put some avid mechs on there yourself. It's a hard bike to beat for the money.
