So, I rode the route yesterday thinking you guys might like a very early season report.

Penny Road is even worse than last year: probably bad enough already that we should reroute around it. The rest of the roads were pretty good with the exception of County Line Road ... watch out there.

Now, road surfaces are another story. Here is a teaser, how do you make track(s) like this?

More tomorrow. Oh ./.. and I am ferociously out of shape ... :(

You didn't see my post when I rode out there on New Years day? I think you'll be needing 6 cans of paint this year

We could always use it as an excuse for a warm-up :thumb:

And now back to our regularly scheduled program ...

So, I was coming down the hill before the bridge ... and the road looked pretty clean. I like to go fast so ... full power rudolph. I get to the left turn and drift a little bit over and uh oh ... I start to slide. Now I've got a problem. I go for the brakes but can't do much without sliding and I can't turn enough to make the turn ... oh cr*p!. This is gonna hurt.

I know, let's try to go into the snow and let it slow me down. Yea ... that sounds like a good plan .... So brake as much as traction allows and go straight into the snow ... get you weight back ... uh oh number 2 ... I said, get your weight back ...

And here comes Greg Lougainis doing a perfect front dive pike. That's how the tracks in the picture stop suddenly with no foot going down.

Since the brakes didn't work I figured I would try to stop with my face ... AND IT WORKED! :)

I took a pretty good bonk flying over top and my head hurt and neck really hurt. Neck is still sore today but rode in this morning. No way am I passing up this weather ... anything to avoid the trainer.

Funny thing, ski helmets are solid and slide well along the snow when you face plant. The vents in bike helmets make them act like lawn darts ... bif and your head stops while the rest of your body tumbles over the top.

I was riding for the next 3 minutes smacking my head to get all the snow out of the vents. I didn't know I was bleeding till I get home and my daughters say "Daddy what happened?" "I crashed." LOL. I suck!@

So, be careful. There was a salt glaze out of the traffic path that was quite slick. Funny thing was, I wanted to take my Cervelo out ... Dang am I glad I took the commuter. At least one good decision I made that day.

I know. Just thought I'd throw that out there for fun

Much better than your face looks :D

I feel like a slug. I hadn't been able to do much skiing and now I've got to take it *easy on the bike.

I am feeling better -- sloooooooooooowly :twitchy:

*Just what is this "easy" thing anyway?

Ouch....glad you're ok! I hope you didn't scare the girls too much walking in looking like that! It's been a crazy winter, huh? We're all going to have to work a bit harder this spring to get back into shape.

Cyclpsycho...did I miss something? Are you sick? Injured? Whichever the case hope you're feeling better soon!

It's threads like this that make me glad I don't start riding outside until at least Memorial Day.

This thread should be relocated to the southeast regional forum....I hear they could make use of all these sandbags.
