Northern California - Opening date for the Borregas bridges over 237 and 101?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I cruised by last weekend (didn't realize how short borregas was between 237 and 101 at that point) and the bridges are finished, but blocked off.
Anybody know when they're opening?
It's not particularly useful to me because I live near Great America and use the undercrossing @ 237, but I'm sure I could find a use for them :)
Last I heard was April. No specific date.

I asked an SVBC guy at a booth on BTWD last year and he said June '09. I find this hard to believe, seeing as we can all tell that they're 98% done right now and they could be done in a couple of weeks if they wanted, but then this is the city of Sunnyvale we're talking about here. Downtown's been a trainwreck for ages now, so mabe June to finish the bike bridges is reasonable.
Those bridges will help my commute quite a bit when they're done.
Strange, at BTWD the SVBC and MBPTA folks were saying that they were going to be opening around April. Mostly it would coincide with the Spring season and BTWD in May (to serve as kind of a grand opening, I've heard).

Well, I hope you are right, as I will use the new bridges both as a replacement for crossing 101 at the old ped bridge (or Fair Oaks), and as a replacement for crossing 237 at Java. Can't wait.

Sent an email to svbc yesterday, but still yet to receive a reply.

Since it's going to be my new commute route, I'm kinda wanting to be there when it opens officially....

Response from svbc:
Thanks for your interest! According to Sunnyvale traffic engineering staff, we should anticipate the grand opening of the Borregas bridges in mid-March. It's also possible there will be a "soft opening" earlier (allowing public use while some of the final details are being completed).
If you have any other questions feel free to contact me, or the BPAC liaison Heba El-Guendy (<helguendy@ci.sunnyvale.ca.us>). You can find most of the city bike-related information at <biking.insunnyvale.com>. Please pass this information to anyone else who may be interested.

Uh, yeah. What about the plan to turn Onizuka AFS into an auto mall when the USAF closes it in 2011?
Actually, I sound pretty cranky. I live in Sunnyvale and I like it a lot, it's a great town. But the city council makes some pretty silly decisions sometime!

I had a very interesting introduction to exactly what's really going on the other day. I hadn't paid attention before...

So hey, it looks like at Borregas & 237 they've filled in all of the trenches as of yesterday. What do they have left to do other than restripe the streets?

Update: I just got an email regarding the opening of this.
Hi, folks-
Just got this second hand, but it looks official. For all you Moffett Park people who have bike clubs with company jerseys, how about encouraging them to show up in costume? And maybe one company could even have everyone pedal over on matching yellow bikes! Will post the specific location when it is announced.
