Got flyer in the mail for the annual Sebring (Florida) Tandem Rally being held April 4 and 5, 2009.
Sebring is in cental Florida where they hold the Sebring sports car races (remember those?).
Daily rides; fully supported; full and half-metric centuries as well as 12 and 24 mile distances.
Headquartered at Kenilworth Lodge where it's been held for 13 consecutive years. We did this event in the early years and had a great time.
Some rolling type hills (hey this is Flordia . . . this is as hilly as it gets!), orange groves, lakes and nice roads. Town of Sebring and the Lodge are neat places.
Registration is a rea$onable $125 per tandem duo and includes continetal breakfast, mid-day meal, sag and radio support and rest stops with goodies and liquids. Lodging not included.
E-mail to bike@kenilworthlodge.com for more details.

Maggi and I hope to make this one, as we had to forego the Georgia Tandem Rally. We'll be camping at the Highlands Hammock State Park, (just in case there are any other campers going).

We plan on showing up Friday early enough to do some riding by about noon. Anyone else?

Do you think they would mind if we just showed up for a Sunday century? We will be in Clermont that weekend (about 40 miles away).

Actually, unlike most tandem rallies, the Sebring Rally has "day rates" and "ala-carte" pricing available. Here's a link to the link where their pricing/registration .pdf file is located:

But to be honest, if someone just joined in with the group a block away from the hotel, they certainly couldn't stop you from riding on the same road!

Thanks for the link, I see they aren't holding any Centuries.

Ah well.

Any info on camping? Not sure about the Friday ride though.

Sure. Highlands Hammock State Park - not more than 7 miles from the host hotel, electric and dump station, $18/night reg, $9/night senior or disabled. That's where we'll be in our travel trailer.

Well be there. It's only about 2 hours from home. Sebring was our first tandem rally and I think this will our 4th year back.

The new ride host is Darrel Smith, who I understand is a very experienced local cyclist. I hear he did a very good job at the all bike event they put on in December.

The Kennelworth is the host location and ride start, but if you want an alternative or if they fill up, I'd recommend the new Marriott Residence Inn or The Inn on the Lake. Both are on the Hwy. 27, the main drag through town only a few miles away. I' would also highly recommend Chicane's, at The Inn on the Lake as probably the best restaurant in town.
