I'm trying to decide which wheels to get, I was looking to spend up to $300 on wheels. I have a Specialized Transition Expert, I'm 6'1" and weight 180. Any input will be much appreciated. thanks

The XR-1 wheels are nice but you might be pushing the weight limit on them as they do have a rather low spoke count. I have a set but i weigh 130 lbs...
What wheels do you have now? If you're looking for something aerodynamic when racing, you might consider a rear wheel cover for a pseud-disc wheel. They're pretty darned cheap and almost effective as a real disc wheel.

FWIW:
I'm 245#ish & ride the Xero XSR-3 wheels (20/24 spoke) that came stock on my OCR limited. 2500+ miles with no issues. As preventative maintenance, I had them retensioned & trued at approx 750mi. There is alot to be said for regular maintenance. Again, no issues with over 2500 mi.
+1 on the wheelcover. Although I have no personal experience, from what I have read, you can't go wrong at $60. I'm considering building a cheap disc rear wheel (for events only) using a lightweight wheel (ebay) and wheel cover. Wheelcover link:

Good luck !!

Thanks for the advice I went with the mavic since they are training wheels. I purchased the bike minus wheels. What type of wheels should I look at for races? I was looking to spend around $500; I had thought about a set of the soul wheels (http://www.bikesoul.com/wheeldivision.html) I plan on ordering the disc cover as a start.
Thanks for everyone's help
