Does anybody have any ideas where I could look to find an Single Speed bike for an adult? The bike will be used for a woman in her late 50's. She does not want any gears but a 'cruiser' type of bike single speed. Nothing expensive, approximately 150.00 Canadian.

Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

Just about any x-mart store will sell a SS cruiser for for less than $100 USD.

I think there is a Cyclepath in Ottawa, try them. If not phone the bike shops in town, I remember lots of them when I lived there.

Its not fair to fix a little old lady up with a heavyweight singlespeed. My mother used to ride one of these around town, but she had no acceleration to cross junctions.
Check out some of the Breezer town bikes like the Citizen, they are fairly light and well designed for the price.

Unless she has some strong legs I'd strongly recommend an internal hub equipped bicycle. Even something with a 3 gear hub will be tremendous to someone who hasn't been out in a while.

Thanks for all your input. I will use the advice to look for a decent bike.

I have checked the local walmart here and there isnt anything. The walmart website does however, only downside is the walmart website doesn't seem to recognize they have stores in Canada as well and provide abosutely no Canadian version of the site and ordering the bike online would just increase the cost.

Unfortunately walmart.ca is for information only and does not allow any purchases, wow what a pain in the rear.
