Classic & Vintage - Gracias, BF member....

It goes without saying that trades, swaps, deals, Pay it Forwards, etc on this forum are numerous, common, friendly, and much less mercenary than they could be, and a lot of us appreciate a lot of us. But once in a while, someone really goes out of their way. So I'll start.

acme-supply. (I think of Wile. E. Coyote every time I see him post.) He sent me a frame, unsolicited, no strings attached. And all I gave him was the hopeful promise to do it right. ;) Thanks again.

You reap what you sew, Rob. Most people apply this to a bad deed but here it's a good thing. Rob does a lot to help others so when he needs a hand people are more then eager to help.

My shout out goes to PastorBob. When I got my first C/V bike (Wheaties/Paramount) he sent me a Schwinn jersey as a "house warming gift". What a guy! P.S. Bob could you PM your address please?

gr23932: Somehow he knew I was looking for a specific frame. Contacted me out of the blue when he found one and asked if I wanted it. Then he bought it, had it sent to him, unwrapped it for pictures, packaged it up again and shipped it to me, for the cost only. Thanks, Gilberto!!

And all this is done by a Mexican from California who stayed in Belgium, with a Dutch frame found in Germany, sent to a Danish guy living in the US!

KPUG505: I'll be picking up the Nishiki from the Pay it Forward thread in a little over a week that will become my 13 yo's primary ride.

I've learned so much from this group in the past year and look forward to many more.

East Hill, who I'm sure is too modest to want me to tell everyone the extent of her true kindness, suffice it to say she facilitated a Craigslist deal for me and really went the extra mile.

I've only been on this subforum for a few months. Been a member for awhile, but was in other subforums.

The people and the attitude in this one is outstanding! I really think I used to be more jaded just because of the negative energy in other subforums. I'd ask a simple question and it would turn into a fight over something not about the question.

I've posted a few times in here and only gotten helpful, useful answers, given with kindness. THANKS for the kindness everyone!

Ha ha ha...it was worth it to spend the money on a new, classic bicycle that I didn't really need just to get involved with the good folks here in C&V:)

RobbieTunes: I should be in Durham, NC doing work all summer. Not sure exactly where you are in NC, but would love to get together for a C&V ride. Until I came into this subforum I thought the idea of riding with other BF members (from the roadies and fixed forums) sounded like torture. Now it seems like a great way to meet bicycle enthusiasts, not cycling competitors.

Definitely a great atmosphere and feel here in C&V. Thanks everyone!

I'd like to thank Dirtdrop for answering my call for a 3 speed S-A shifter and cable for my daughter's bike (brand new, and free!) and USAZorro for helping me with a vintage cable stop for the mere postage. Thanks, guys!

Little Darwin, GAVE ME corky! For Nothing! I spent more on that bike than most of you will have spent on most of your C&V builds but getting it for nothing made sinking in that money worth it. It's my one and only full restoration form the ground up, paint and repo decals, and painstakingly educating myself and persuing those oh so rare first generation Nuovo record era parts... I could probably list 10 "did you knows?" about first generation Nuovo record era nuovo record and record parts that half of this community is completely unaware of! I certainly was before I started that project.

That said there are too many others to list who have been immensely helpful and generous, including bigbossman, lotek, cuda2k, USAzorro, easthill, DR. Deltron and countless others.

I've been quite fortunate lately as well. Literally over a dozen folks here. You all know who you are. :thumb:

p.s. 23skidoo, I haven't forgotten. Work's been killing me, the weekend had few breaks, and I kept finding a sick 17 year old parked on the computer that has the memory card reader on it. He's back in school today, and hopefully I can escape long enough to send you pics.

I've only been a member for a year and I've had several members send me things via pay it forward, or the for trade thread etc etc.

This forum and more importantly the people in it are really one of the main motivators that keep me interested in learning more about vintage bikes.

BlankCrows has become a great friend and is always scouting out parts in his neck o' the woods for me, and East Hill did me a solid way back when my daughter was getting started on road bikes. King of Kadence and Pastorbob have both helped me out when I was in need of Schwinn parts, and who was it that sent me that free gray Schwinn frame-set for my daughter's first bike build a couple of years ago - JunkYardBike.

Mhendricks and Bikingshearer have not only been generous with time and expertise, but have also turned into good friends and regular riding buddies. Not only has OldFatGuy found me all kinds of swag, given me all kinds of advice, and enabled me when I showed weakness (;)), he also became a good friend and opened up his home to me for a long weekend and road race in Arizona, found me a top-tier road bike to ride, and even cooked my breakfast on race day.

Bigwoo and others have been great trading partners, USAZorro has been more than helpful on many projects and nlerner gave me a lot of great advice on fixie building/conversions

I know I've left a few deserving folks out, but yeah - his forum is a pretty good place......... :)

Many of you who have posted, plus many who have already been thanked, plus many others who post regularly, or who have in the past few years, for making this a community that allows for the exchange of ideas, parts and bikes...

There is a sense of nostalgia here that extends beyond bikes and makes this a nice place to hang out.

I read the ISO/WTB thread daily hoping that someone is in need of something I have, and I have managed to send a few small things, and promised a few others that I have procrastinated, and forgotten to send, but even with my failures, there is something about this little corner of the internet that makes me want to help those who wander in.

I was excited when I opened a magazine from 1957 and found scooper's parents... and knew I had a place to share a scan of the picture. So, keep up the sharing of information and parts.
