I just returned from 3 hours of riding at Jack Brooks Park in Hitchcock/Santa Fe. First time out, here's a quick review...

This link (http://content.mtbr.com/pscTrails/United,States,Trails/Texas-Houston/,Jack,Brooks,Park/PRD_170503_4582crx.aspx) will tell you how to get there, pretty good directions on that site. Here's a map (http://home.houston.rr.com/dgh/gcdg/maps/jb_area.html) for you, too. I parked near the memorial and started riding from there. The park is really nice, with clean facilities and is well-maintained. My favorite trail runs paralell to the creek that is adjacent to the disc golf course (see map link). I rode that one at least 4 times. There are lots of pretty technical climbs that are covered in exposed tree roots, I'm sure they'd be very tough if it was wet at all. I'm fairly inexperienced, and I was getting all the climbs with no problems towards the end of the ride. I started getting more confident and came screamin' down one of the hills; only to hit some pine needles and slide right into the creek. That cooled me off pretty quick, somehow I only got one foot wet :D . All the trails were completely dry today and in great shape.

I didn't find any maps while I was riding around, but the trails are marked pretty well. There is one main drag that runs fairly straight and has at least 5 trails that cross it. Each one is marked with a colored arrow that shows direction and difficulty. There are also "wrong way" signs to help you out, as well.

I had tons of fun, only got lost once, and was only limited by my empty stomach. I spent 3 hours out there and still didn't ride all the trails. I couldn't find any pics on the net, I'll try to get some as soon as I fix my digicam (it drowned on the last kayaking trip). I'm in the Clear Lake area, any of you guys know more good trails to hit around here?

Cool, sounds like you had a great ride. Thanks for the ride report. We need more of these around here.

Not that I'll ever make it there (never say never), but sounds like a pretty cool place.
